April 11 is a day we are all still in awe about! The way this community showed up in participation, sponsorship, volunteering, and of course spectating has blown us away!
We started off the weekend on Friday night with our second annual 42 Tournament. We had a very impressive turnout of 19 teams, and the winners were Justin Russell and Chris Dewbre who traveled all the way from Brazos County to play with us. Russ Meggs and Patrick Murphy took second after a close championship round. Oakwood Police Chief Stephen Lister and his family kept everyone fed throughout the evening.
Saturday morning, Chief Lister was back on the pit cooking up breakfast while registration was underway. We had a record breaking THIRTY SIX teams shoot with us. John Johnston with Atlas Traps held our safety meeting and sent the first flight out. Under the tent we had our silent auction and raffle ticket sales going while Faith Fellowship Baptist Church prepared lunch. For the third year in a row, lunch has been donated by Tejun the Texas Cajun and prepared by our friends at Faith Fellowship, what a great team they have been!
As shooters started rolling in from the course, Raffy Muñoz Music set us to keep us entertained. We also had shooters playing Make or Break and shooting Long Bird. Everyone enjoyed lunch and a show as we waited for results!
A full course means a long wait, but the results were in! Reserve Champion Youth team, sponsored by C4 Services, was taken by Heston Brooke, Jace Long, Trey Musgrove, and Wyatt Moore. Navarro
County Youth team shooters Casen Montfort, Matt Grider Jr, Tommy Brown, and Waylon Griffin went home as the Champion Youth Team. Specialty Risk Team were our Reserve Champion team of Eric Harwell, Cameron Cothran, Zach Gauntt, and Trevor Cooper. The Navarro County bunch came for gold again with the Elevate team of Bud Tacker, Cooper Hays, Nicholas Aucamp, and Kynlee Laquay as our Champions. Zach Gauntt took Men’s High Point with a 96 and Kynlee Laquay took the Women’s with an 89. We also wrapped up Make or Break with Brock York and Craig Muirhead taking the youth and adult top spots. Curtis Jones was our Long Bird champ. Great Shooting by all!
These yearly events are only possible due to the generous and continued support from our sponsors and donors. Your dedication to the youth in this county does not go unnoticed! Scholarship season is right around the corner, and we are so thankful to have the funds to bless our local seniors! Thank you all again, we will see you next April!
