Today I completed my training to become a backup volunteer driver for Meals On Wheels. This couple that trained me have been volunteer drivers for 12 years. Definitely fits our Rotary “Service Above Self”.

Scarecrow Contest
Rules and Guidelines

Registration: As space is limited, entries will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Registration forms are available at www.FSRotary.org or by calling or e-mailing

Registration forms are due October 2, 2026.
Entry fee: FREE! There is NO cost to enter the contest.
Eligibility: This contest is open to all non-profit groups including schools, service and community groups, and youth organizations. Businesses may enter but any cash prize awarded must be donated to a non-profit group, identified at the time of entry.

Themes: Scarecrows may be traditional, whimsical, humorous, mischievous, fantasy, celebrity, or loveable. Entrants are reminded that this is a family event and that Rotary reserves the right to deny any entry. Not allowed: Bloody or violent themes, advertising, political or religious statements.

Construction: Scarecrows must be durable and able to stand up to sun, wind and rain showers as they will be displayed from October 10h through October 25th. The use of store-bought characters or figures is prohibited. All decorations must be firmly attached to your scarecrow. Feel free to bring extra props like straw bales, corn stalks, etc. The height of your scarecrow should be between 4-7 feet tall. If you choose to bring fresh vegetables or fruits (like pumpkins) they must be whole and not punctured or carved to ensure they last the duration of the contest. We reserve the right to remove any entries that do not maintain their condition to be displayed. Power -Only solar or wind power for moving parts may be used. (no electricity is provided). Five-foot metal stakes will be available on site, if needed.

Identifying Signs: Please include, as part of your display, a sign with the name of your entry and your school, group, business, or service club name. Signage dimensions must be less than 11 x 17 inches. We will assign a number to your display for voting purposes (see below).

Judging: All entries will be voted on by Pumpkin Patch/Tractor Ride visitors during three weekends in October (10-11, 17-18, 24-25). A ballot will be given to each person who rides the Tractor Ride at the Pumpkin Patch. October 25nd will be the last day to vote and the winners will be announced by October 31st. You do not need to be present to win.
Set-up: Scarecrows must be delivered and placed on display at the Pumpkin Patch on October 9, 2026, between the hours of 10 am and 6 pm. A lottery system will determine the placement of each scarecrow on the property.

Awards: All awards will be by check to the winning organizations and schools as follows: Grand Prize--$1000, Second Place--$500; Third Place--$250.

Ownership: All entries become the property of the Rotary Pumpkin Patch unless you specifically request to remove your scarecrow after the end of the context. Pick-up of scarecrows must be done between 4:00 and 6:00PM on Sunday, October 25!

Tell us a little about your family or background.

While growing up in the Air Force, we moved all over the west coast from Alaska, Washington and California. I have an older sister and a twin brother.

How long have you lived or worked in our community?

I bought my house in Fairfield in 2017.

What made you decide to join Rotary?

After running into Rob Villarreal at Trader Joe’s since retirement, I was invited to attend the Cordelia Morning Club. I am looking for a way to serve my community and meet new people.

What does “Service Above Self” mean to you?

As a man of faith, I am blessed to be part of the Cordelia Rotary Club to be of service to my church and community.

Is there a particular cause or type of community service you’re passionate about?

I am a general supporter of all local and nonprofit organizations. I like helping others grow and benefit from their hard work they have done.

What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of work and Rotary?

In my household, we are SF Giants fans and attend ballgames at Oracle Park frequently. We also enjoy going to the gun range.

What is something about you that might surprise your fellow Rotarians?

😎 In my early to mid 20’s , I was a cook at Bakers Square Restaurant and Pies!

What is a favorite place you’ve traveled—or somewhere you’d still love to visit?

Having fond childhood memories of growing up in Anchorage, AK it holds a special place in my heart. I have always wanted to travel to every national park in America!

What is one thing on your bucket list?

Macchu Pichu

What are you most looking forward to as a member of the Rotary Club of Cordelia?

I am looking forward to being part of an organization that places Service of Others first.

Meet another new member of the Rotary Club of Cordelia — Susana Medina Romano! 💙💛

We’re excited to welcome Susana to our Rotary family! We look forward to getting to know her better and having her join us as we serve our community, build friendships, and make a difference together.

My name is Susana Medina Roman, and I’m a Realtor Realty ONE Group FOX. I began my real estate career in 2004 and have spent more than two decades helping buyers and sellers navigate one of life’s biggest decisions.

I was born and raised in Los Angeles and moved to Vacaville in 1999 with my family. Trading the fast-paced city life for country living was a big change, but I quickly fell in love with the community and have proudly called Solano County home ever since.

Family is a huge part of who I am. My humble upbringing taught me the importance of hard work, staying grounded, and helping others whenever I can. As a native Spanish speaker, I’m also proud to serve and connect with our diverse community.

I joined Rotary because I wanted to become more involved in giving back locally and connect with others who share that same passion. To me, “Service Above Self” means helping others without expecting anything in return. I especially enjoy supporting families, youth, and causes that make a direct difference in our community.

Outside of real estate and Rotary, I love traveling, camping, spending time with family, and enjoying our family farm. I also consider myself a bit of a foodie, I love to cook and enjoy trying new foods and restaurants. Something that may surprise my fellow Rotarians is that I know how to ride a motorcycle and even have my motorcycle license!

I love traveling and experiencing new places and cultures, and there are still plenty of destinations on my bucket list. One thing on my bucket list is simply to travel more and experience places I’ve never been before.

As a member of the Rotary Club of Cordelia, I’m most looking forward to building new friendships, serving alongside others, and making a positive impact in our community.

Please consider supporting this sweet little girl who I’m certain will be a future Rotarian. Her mom, Liz Capp, is a member of our Rotary club.

Harper officially soft launched her first little business at my Rotary Club this morning.

Introducing Take One Treats! 🎬🍪

Harper has decided she wants to be a film director (future Greta Gerwig, obviously 😂), and right now she really wants a GoPro so she can start making her own movies.

But instead of just asking for one, we decided to turn it into a lesson in entrepreneurship and what it actually takes to run a business.

She has partnered with her grandma, who is officially the baker for Take One Treats. 👩‍🍳 Harper purchases the baked goods from Babs, pays for her packaging and other costs of doing business, sells the finished product, and then gets to keep the profit — not the revenue — to put toward her GoPro.

And yes, Babs is getting paid for the madeleines. 😂 She has made it VERY clear that she does not want Harper’s money and would much rather just buy her the GoPro herself, but she’s begrudgingly agreed to our business model in the name of teaching her granddaughter about entrepreneurship.

So Babs is learning a lesson too: you can’t just spoil your way around the cost of goods. 😂

Harper is learning how to price a product, calculate cost of goods, track expenses and sales, work with a supplier, market her product, serve customers and — hopefully — make a profit.

And Mom is making her keep the books. 😏

Meet Our New Rotarian: Desiree Boyle…Welcome Desiree to the Rotary Club of Cordelia family. ❤️

1. Name and Occupation: What do you do, or what did you do before retirement?

My name is Desiree Boyle. I work for a local wealth management firm as a Senior Administrative Associate and Compliance Specialist.

2. Tell us a little about your family or background.

My husband and I have four adult children, three teenage sophomores at Rodriguez High School, and two grandchildren.

3. How long have you lived or worked in our community?

I have lived in Fairfield since 2017. Prior to that, I lived in the East Bay from 2009 to 2016. I was born and raised in Vacaville, so the Solano County community has always been home to me.

4. What made you decide to join Rotary?

I admire the commitment to community service that Rotary members demonstrate and the many ways they give back and support various organizations in our community. I believe joining Rotary is a great opportunity to serve, give back to our community, and build meaningful relationships with others who share the same values.

I was also inspired to join Rotary because of June Johnsen, who has always been someone I admire for the time, energy, and service she gives to our community. Seeing her commitment to helping others and staying involved has been a great example to me and my kids

5. What does “Service Above Self” mean to you?

“Service Above Self” to me means putting the needs of others and the community before myself. It means utilizing my time, skills, and resources to make a positive contribution to my community and help make a difference.

6. Is there a particular cause or type of community service you’re passionate about?

I am passionate about contributing my time and service to the schools my children have attended and currently attend. I also enjoy volunteering at local events in our community that raise funds and support various community resources. I also enjoy volunteering at the food bank and having our boys volunteer their time alongside me or June Johnsen. I believe it is important to teach our children the value of giving back and serving others in our community.

7. What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of work and Rotary?

Outside of work and Rotary, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I am part of a monthly Bunco group, which is something I always look forward to. I also love planning events, entertaining, and putting together charcuterie boards.

8. What is something about you that might surprise your fellow Rotarians?

Something that seems to surprise people is that I can sometimes come across as a strong or serious person at work but I’m really a soft person with a big heart. I care deeply about the people around me and enjoy being there for my family, friends, and community.

9. What is a favorite place you’ve traveled—or somewhere you’d still love to visit?

Hawaii has been my favorite place I’ve traveled. There is also a long list of places I would still love to visit, especially with my husband. I look forward to traveling together and making new memories

10. What is one thing on your bucket list?

One thing on my bucket list is to take a big family vacation with all of our adult children, teenagers, and grandchildren. I would love to have everyone together in one place.

11. What are you most looking forward to as a member of the Rotary Club of Cordelia?

I am most looking forward to getting to know other members, building meaningful relationships, and finding new ways to serve and give back to our community. I am excited to be part of a group of people who share a commitment to making a positive difference in our community.

Today we welcomed Veronica Cornett, the project manager for the Pacific Flyway Center, an 845-acre wetland and landscape interpretation center project located at the edge of the Suisun Marsh near Fairfield. 🦆🦅

We learned how important the Bay Area is as a resting and feeding place for migratory birds traveling the Pacific Flyway—from Alaska all the way to Patagonia!

Thank you, Veronica, for sharing your knowledge and helping us better understand the incredible journey these birds make and the importance of protecting the habitats they depend on. We hope our small donation will help support this important work and make a meaningful impact.
