We’re proud to participate in the 6th Annual Connecticut’s statewide Gun Buyback & Safe Giveaway with Newtown Action Alliance and Ethan Song Acts of Kindness Page. This is an important community safety initiative that gives residents a safe way to dispose of unwanted or unsecured fi****ms while promoting responsible gun storage.

With 16 events across the state, there’s an opportunity to participate all throughout Connecticut:

A federal court has upheld Connecticut’s law prohibiting anyone under 21 from purchasing a handgun, rejecting a challenge from two residents and gun rights advocacy groups.

Connecticut is one of 18 states that have closed the private-sale loophole that allows 18 to 20 year olds to obtain handguns in some states.

In response, CAGV’s Executive Director, Earl Bloodworth said, “Public safety and constitutional rights can coexist. And in Connecticut, we have one of the lowest firearm death rates in the nation because we have adopted a comprehensive approach, combining responsible gun laws, violence intervention, education, and enforcement.”

Last week, we celebrated CAGV Night with the Yard Goats ⚾️ at Dunkin’ Park in Hartford! It was a great evening to spread awareness about gun violence prevention, connect with our community, and enjoy some family fun.

Last week, Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz and Chief Deputy Majority Leader and State Senator Gary Winfield co-authored an op-ed on Connecticut’s gun laws and the policies that are helping make our state a safer place to live.

At CAGV, we’ll continue to advocate for evidence-based policies that prevent gun violence and protect the progress Connecticut has made. As the op-ed makes clear, the numbers don’t lie: smart policies create safer communities.
