Juneteenth reminds us that freedom delayed is not freedom denied.

Today, we celebrate the courage of those who came before us, the progress we have achieved, and the work that still lies ahead. We honor the sacrifices, embrace our heritage, and renew our commitment to building stronger businesses, stronger communities, and stronger futures.

The Solano County Black Chamber of Commerce stands proudly in celebrating Black excellence, economic empowerment, and the limitless possibilities that emerge when communities unite with purpose.

Together, we honor the past, celebrate the present, and build the future.

Solano County -

“Memorial Day honors all U.S. military members who died in service, including the countless Black Americans who fought, sacrificed, and often served while facing segregation and discrimination at home. Some of the most honored and historically significant Black military groups remembered on Memorial Day include:

*Buffalo Soldiers — Black Army regiments formed after the Civil War who served in the American West and in later conflicts.

*Tuskegee Airmen — The first Black military pilots in the U.S. Armed Forces, famous for their excellence during WWII.

*761st Tank Battalion — Known as the “Black Panthers,” they fought with distinction in Europe under General Patton.

*54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment — One of the first official Black units in the Civil War, whose bravery became legendary.

*6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion — The only all-Black, all-female battalion sent overseas during WWII.

*Montford Point Marines — The first Black Marines trained separately during segregation before integration of the Marine Corps.

*United States Colored Troops — More than 180,000 Black soldiers served in these units during the Civil War.

“This Memorial Day, we honor the courage, sacrifice, and legacy of all who gave their lives in service to our nation — including the Black servicemen and women whose patriotism helped shape American history.”

** Solano County **

The Solano County Black Chamber of Commerce received a number of emails and calls, and we are aware of the deeply disturbing video currently circulating within our community regarding the 16 year old student at Fairfield High School.

As mothers, fathers, leaders, and community members, many of us felt an overwhelming sense of pain and heartbreak while watching. Regardless of differing opinions or perspectives, this is a tragic and emotional situation that impacts real people, real families, and an entire community.

No matter the outcome, lives will be forever changed. Trauma, emotional scars, and difficult questions will remain long after the headlines and social media conversations fade.

Our hearts go out to the young man, his family, and everyone directly impacted as they navigate this incredibly painful and uncertain time. We understand the community’s desire for clarity, answers, and accountability, and we hope those questions are addressed with honesty, transparency, and care.

At the same time, we encourage our community not to allow pain, anger, or emotion to divide us further. Moments like these should challenge all of us to come together with empathy, compassion, and a shared commitment to preventing future tragedies from occurring.

Law enforcement and the community must work together — we need each other. Building trust, communication, accountability, and mutual respect is essential if we truly want safer and stronger communities for everyone.

We must continue having difficult conversations, supporting one another, and working collectively toward solutions that strengthen trust, safety, understanding, and healing throughout our community.

The Solano County Black Chamber of Commerce remains committed to advocating for unity, humanity, and constructive dialogue during difficult times.
