As we have shared, the cost of doing rescue has sky-rocketed tremendously in the last few years. Every single cost of saving a life has increased by up to 50%, from vaccines and surgeries, to fuel and pet food. It leaves us having to spend more time begging for funding and donations (which we hate, but know it’s vital to our lifesaving) and you all have always stepped up for the animals.

Last week we were contacted about a horrific story that is far too common in Virginia. Fourteen Hounds were found starving to death in the possession of a cruel hunter. Their ribs showing, spray painted numbers on their thin torsos, full of intestinal parasites and riddled with heartworm. This is just infuriating as much as it is heartbreaking.
These sweet soulful dogs are treated again and again like machines - to hunt and then tossed alongside roads or left to starve in outdoor pens or on chains. This has GOT TO STOP.
HT is trying to find partners to tackle the Hound problem in Virginia. It will take a village to make a difference. We do our small part by waiving adoption fees for them to make them easier to adopt - because few people consider these wonderful dogs. We also partner with a number of groups and wonderful individuals to secure matching dollars to put towards the expensive heartworm treatment and lifesaving medical that so many need.
But often we are just too late, or too full, to get to them before they die or are euthanized. PLEASE help us double your donation before the 3rd quarter ends to help these horribly abused dogs.
