After the 911 attacks our country was numb with shock. At that time the VCME changed it's proposed program for our February concert (2003) to be one of music written in response to the tragedy. We received 11 gut-wrenchingly honest works. This is how we started the concert: with Anthony Cornicello's Fractured Landscape, Suspended Song.

Dear all friends of the VCME. Happy New Year. I know nothing has been posted her since the pandemic hit. Fear not, the pandemic did not kill the VCME , it is only in hibernation. We were preparing to do our annual poetry & music concert when the pandemic shut everything down. We'll be reviving that program. Stay tuned!!

It hit me hard when I heard of the news of Andrew Massey's passing last week. We commissioned him for our 2014 Poetry & Music concert and he wrote two small pieces for us and conducted the performances. In his honor I post the performance of his "A Slight Echo, Part 2 ...votive candles burning..." written in response to Ellen Bryant Voigt's poem "Larch"

VCME had it's first rehearsal for it's 2018 Poetry & Music concert. This is one of the most wonderful things I do and the reason I love the VCME. Today we brought to life music that had never been played. And terrific stuff, too. Music by the five composers on our April 20 & 21 concerts: Don Jamison, Thomas Read, Nathan Stumpff, Justin Rito & Randal Pierce. It's going to be a great event with Vermont's poet laureate, Chard deNiord reading his poetry.
