One of the DMV’s most familiar voices is bringing the energy to National Harbor. You’ve seen him on your screen, now come walk with him for Sunrise! He’ll be kicking things off and celebrating every step with us. Now’s the time to register, rally your friends, and hit those fundraising goals!

Our community has already raised nearly $60,000 for SunriseWALKS, and here’s why every dollar matters:
 
When a child is diagnosed with cancer, the whole family’s world changes, for the child and for their siblings. At Sunrise Day Camp - Greater Washington, they all get to be kids again: swimming, laughing, and making friends. It’s a summer that’s magical for kids and completely free of charge for families.
 
For 6 weeks each summer, treatment isn’t the center of their world. Camp is.

TEAM FEATURE: GMU Sunrise Club! 
 
What started at Sunrise Day Camp continues to grow beyond the camp!
 
Bradley and Sophia, co-founders of the GMU Sunrise Club, both spent their summers as counselors at Sunrise, making an impact on the lives of our campers. Now, years later, they’re bringing that same spirit of community to George Mason University alongside Alex, the club’s Vice President.
 
Together, they’ve rallied the club around SunriseWALKS and are already off to an amazing start, raising over $2,500! From hosting fundraising events at local businesses to getting creative with new ways to bring people together, the GMU Sunrise Club is showing that fundraising is about more than a dollar amount. It’s about building community, spreading awareness, and making an impact for children with cancer and their siblings.
 
We’re so grateful for Bradley, Sophia, Alex, and the entire Sunrise Club - GMU for their continued support. We look forward to seeing what they accomplish between now and SunriseWALKS on October 18!

Meet the Emcee for SunriseWALKS 2026!

We’re so excited to welcome back Shomari Stone as the emcee for the 5th Annual SunriseWALKS!
 
On Sunday, October 18th at National Harbor, Shomari Stone will help bring our community together to walk, celebrate, and raise funds to help make camp and year-round programs possible for Sunrise families.

A familiar face to so many in our community, Shomari brings his energy, heart, and enthusiasm to SunriseWALKS. After previously joining us as our emcee, Shomari visited Sunrise Day Camp–Greater Washington this summer and experienced firsthand the joy and connection that make camp so special for children with cancer and their siblings. We’re excited to have him join us again and help kick off a special morning in support of Sunrise!

The mission of the Sunrise Day Camp - Greater Washington is to bring back the joys of childhood to children with cancer and their siblings. Sunrise accomplishes this through our 6-week inclusive summer day camp, year-round programs and in-hospital recreational activities, all offered free of charge.

Meet the Bonner Family — Our 2026 SunriseWALKS Ambassador Family!

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and we’re honored to begin the month by introducing you to the Bonner family.

In 2024, their daughter, Mackenzie, was diagnosed with brain and spine tumors. While she was undergoing treatment, their family found Sunrise. At Sunrise, Mackenzie found friends who understood what she was going through. Mackenzie found friends who just got it. For the first time in a long time, she could simply be a kid.

Her younger brother Miles found his place at Sunrise too, a community that understands what the whole family goes through.

This Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, help us create that same sense of connection and joy for more families. Register for SunriseWALKS or support a participant and help make camp possible.
