We've partnered with the Surgical Data Science Collective (SDSC) because surgery remains underemphasized in global health, and AI offers an opportunity to extend the reach of expert surgical mentorship.

In Uganda, 10,000 infants develop hydrocephalus each year, but there aren't enough trained teams to reach them all.

Through our partnership with SDSC, we’re exploring how AI can support expert surgeons in mentoring more colleagues across borders, helping more children access skilled care close to home.

When Virginia's baby Devine was diagnosed with hydrocephalus at just two months old, she faced unimaginable challenges. Her husband abandoned the family because of the diagnosis, but Virginia refused to give up on her son.

She traveled to University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka, Zambia where she found something she hadn't expected: a community of mothers facing the same journey, and a team of doctors who treated her with compassion and respect.

On November 25, 2024, Dr. Kabelele Sipalo, a NeuroKids-trained surgeon, performed critical surgery to treat Devine’s hydrocephalus.

Today, Devine is a healthy, active little boy meeting milestones. Virginia is healing too, building a new life that is full of hope.

We're thrilled to announce that NeuroKids will be attending the 52nd Annual Meeting of the ISPNeurosurgery (ISPN) in Cairo, Egypt, from October 7–11, 2026!

This conference gathers pediatric neurosurgeons and innovators from around the world, and we couldn't be more excited to be part of it. Why are we going? Because our mission is to ensure that every child, no matter where they're born, has access to life-saving brain and spine surgery.

At ISPN, we'll be connecting with surgeons, researchers, and partners who share our vision of a world where no child dies from a treatable neurosurgical condition.

One child dies every three minutes from untreated hydrocephalus. The tragedy is not that treatment doesn't exist, it's that most children still cannot reach it.

During UNGA, we came together around a clear call to action: put surgery on the global public health agenda, invest in local surgical teams, and build health systems that can reach families in time.

A single surgery can save one child. A locally led system can keep saving children.

Grateful to our partners for their leadership in this movement, including Watsi, The G4 Alliance, Operation Smile, Kafika House, MiracleFeet, East Central and Southern Africa Health Community - ECSA HC, and The Global Surgery Foundation.

Together, we're exploring how surgical video combined with AI-supported analysis and expert mentorship can support surgeons across distance, bringing specialized knowledge to more patients who need it.

Last week, 35 passionate people gathered to learn about NeuroKids' mission, and hear stories that underscored why this work matters so deeply.

We heard from the Johnson family who shared what it's like to navigate a hydrocephalus diagnosis, board member Dr. Jacob Lepard showed us the global reality of a lack of access to neurosurgical care, and long-time supporter Kurt Ling shared about how giving back goes far beyond one patient or family.

Every child deserves access to life-saving neurosurgical care, no matter where they're born. And together, we're making that possible.
