Innovation that saves lives starts with access.

When children need imaging for conditions like hydrocephalus and spina bifida, expensive equipment and specialized facilities can create dangerous delays in care, or prevent treatment altogether.

Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) is changing that. At FANN Hospital in Senegal, Professor Maguette Mbaye and Dr. Sage Rahm are using POCUS to capture images right at the bedside. No waiting for costly MRIs or CTs. Just faster, more accessible treatment.

And because POCUS is portable, it's not limited to hospitals—making it especially critical for follow-up care and patients in rural areas.

It’s exciting to see the Warf Procedure (ETV/CPC) entering the national health conversation in Kenya.

At the recent Kenya Health Summit 2026 Media Town Hall, health journalist Samwel Doe Ouma of HealthBusiness Magazine raised the importance of ETV/CPC for children with hydrocephalus, asking about access to the procedure through national health insurance coverage.

Seeing hydrocephalus and effective treatment approaches elevated as part of this broader national health dialogue is an important step toward greater awareness, investment and access to care for children who need it.

Strengthening local health systems is at the core of the NeuroKids mission.
At Lagos University Teaching Hospital in Nigeria, Sarah was diagnosed with hydrocephalus. Her clinical team recommended the Warf Procedure (ETV/CPC), as an alternative to lifelong shunt dependence.

The procedure reduces the risk of long-term complications, something especially important for families like Sarah’s, who live far from specialized care.

The surgery was successfully performed by a NeuroKids-trained neurosurgeon. One year post-op, Sarah is meeting developmental milestones and walking unassisted.

By training local surgeons in advanced care like ETV/CPC, and building partnerships with hospitals globally, we are creating a network of sustainable, specialized pediatric neurosurgical care close to home for the children who need it most.

Sarah appeared healthy at birth, but by six months, her mother Aderayo noticed that she was missing milestones and that her head size was increasing. Aderayo advocated for her daughter, seeking support from colleagues in the medical field.

That advocacy led them to Lagos University Teaching Hospital in Nigeria, where Sarah received the Warf Procedure from a NeuroKids-trained surgeon. Today, Sarah is a happy, healthy toddler who has just taken her first steps.

We believe every child deserves the opportunity for life-changing care close to home.

Sometimes innovation can mean using the simplest tool. Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) is improving the way we can diagnose and support children with suspected hydrocephalus and spina bifida.

Because access to advanced imaging such as CT and MRI is limited and expensive, children can face severe delays in diagnosis.

POCUS is changing that. It is a low-cost, portable diagnostic tool that enables real-time imaging directly at the bedside.

Through early use in Zambia, handheld probes were used to assess the brain and detect hydrocephalus in infants. Clinicians could triage patients faster, prioritize surgical cases, and begin early intervention planning. This means faster treatment, lifesaving surgeries, and kids getting back to being kids.

We have some exciting news to share!

Dr. Nelci Zanon, a NeuroKids-trained pediatric neurosurgeon, will be presenting as one of the keynote speakers at the World Hydrocephalus Congress 2026 in Brazil, starting today.

Dr. Zanon will be sharing about our partnership with the doctors at Santa Casa de Misericórdia de São Paulo in Brazil. This partnership represents the first study in Latin America evaluating the Warf procedure and how it's improving outcomes for children with hydrocephalus.

By working with partners like Dr. Zanon, we're helping expand access to life-saving care and putting patient outcomes first. We're creating a sustainable model where care is available close to home for the children and families who need it most. For children like Pedro and their families, who received treatment from Dr. Zanon and her team, it means the ability to focus on childhood again.

We're still reflecting on what a meaningful experience it was to be part of HA CONNECT 2026 through the Hydrocephalus Association.

Our Programs Director, Krissy Close, and Strategic Communications & Development Manager, Robin Schmid, were proud to represent NeuroKids in the exhibit hall, connecting with families, clinicians, researchers, advocates, and partners from across the hydrocephalus community.

Throughout the week, we were inspired by the spirit of collaboration, the exchange of ideas, and the innovations advancing hydrocephalus care. It was a powerful reminder that progress happens when people come together to share knowledge, listen to one another, and work toward a common goal.

At NeuroKids, we're thrilled to be part of that global community. Working alongside local surgeons, hospitals, and health systems across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East, we're helping expand access to life-changing pediatric neurosurgical care so that more children with hydrocephalus have the opportunity to survive and thrive.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth to introduce yourselves, share your experiences, and learn more about our work. We left the conference energized by new connections, inspired by the conversations, and excited to continue working together to improve access to hydrocephalus care for children everywhere.

🎉 Because of you, we did it!

Together, we exceeded our Hope Within Reach campaign goal, helping make it possible for NeuroKids to establish its newest pediatric neurosurgical partner site in Tanzania.

To every donor, fundraiser, board member, partner, volunteer, and advocate who gave, shared, and believed in this mission—thank you.

Over the past several weeks, you met children like Jonas and Angel. Their stories reminded us that hydrocephalus is treatable and that when children have access to the right care, lives are transformed.

Now, because of your generosity, we're taking the next step.

Together with our partners in Tanzania, we'll work to strengthen pediatric neurosurgical care by training local healthcare teams in the Warf procedure (ETV/CPC), providing ongoing mentorship, and helping expand access to life-saving treatment for children with hydrocephalus and spina bifida.

This milestone belongs to all of us.
