We had a great time at the Northern District GFWC Virginia Fall meeting in Manassas on Saturday.

Kudus to our member, Diane Tuininga, for rocking her first district meeting as President and our member, Nicole Powlison, for serving as district Parliamentarian. There were lots of positive vibes and hope.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Eleanor Vincent, did an excellent job of explaining the important role that Pathway Homes plays in our community. Not only do they provide housing, but they also provide support services for vulnerable people in our community struggling with homelessness, drug addiction, mental and physical illnesses.

As part of the GFWC International Day of Service to help end domestic violence and sexual assault, several of our members, including Northern District GFWC Virginia President, Diane Tuininga, delivered 319 items (20 phone chargers/cords, 68 stuffed animals, underwear, t-shirts, and a variety of other requested items) to the INOVA Forensic Assessment and Consultation Team (FACT) earlier today.

FACT provides 24-hour medical exams and forensic evidence collection for victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and abuse. For more information about this important team/program, please see:

We had a blast reading and learning about apples yesterday with the children at Fairfax United Methodist Preschool! 🍎

They have a few openings for students in their 3 and 4-year old classes, with options for either 3 or 5 days/week. It is a wonderful preschool program!

We always are happy to help our City of Fairfax Police Department friends in support of our community.

We’re excited to partner with 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗔𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 to support their donation drive!

From now until October 5th, we are accepting donations of a number of items in support of Start Anew Project. We have placed boxes in the lobby of the Police Station at 3730 Blenheim Blvd where you can place donated items.

Building a safer, stronger community takes all of us working together, and we’re grateful to partner with an organization that is committed to making a positive difference in the lives of people in our community.

Although we have sponsored a shredding event/food drive for the Fairfax HS food pantry the last 2 years on the last Saturday in September, we are not holding this event at Fairfax HS in 2026.

Apparently, people recently have seen a Fairfax City Patch article referencing the 2025 event and are confused.

Instead of a food insecurity focus, our national day of service on 9/26/26 is focusing on helping victims of sexual abuse/domestic violence.

Internally, we are collecting clothing and other donations for the INOVA Forensic Assessment and Consultation Teams (FACT) department, which focuses on the needs of abused children and adults. They offer expert medical evaluation, forensic evidence collection, and provide expert interpretation based on training, experience and medical data.

The Inova FACT Department is a free service for children and adults who have experienced sexual assault, r**e or abuse. The evidence collection process is available for anyone who has been the victim of a sexual assault, regardless of age, identified gender, sexual orientation, race or religion. We....
