Thank you to the wonderful SHC Community for making our 9th annual Back to School Event a success! Special thanks to the congregations and volunteers who organized supply drives for the lunchboxes + pencil cases and contributed funds to purchase uniforms, and to our partner organizations - Passion & Compassion, SAMU First Response and IROC - who expanded the range of supplies we were able to share during this event. Last week, SHC staff visited Progress Place in Silver Spring to see how InterfaithWorks, Shepherd's Table, Mobile Med and community volunteers work together under one roof to serve Montgomery County folks who need food, shelter and care. Last summer SHC worked with Soccer without Borders. Moms learned English while their kids worked on soccer skills with Coach Hajar. Soccer Without Borders is a great organization doing great work in Baltimore and Maryland! https://www.facebook.com/share/p/18srZ5sSeT/

Today is World Refugee Day. 💙 This past year, SHC has been showing up — peer support groups, empowering moms, a food pantry, legal resources, community celebrations, and more.
The need hasn't slowed. And we're not slowing down either.

Last week SHC joined with many other local organizations to connect to families at the Afghan Education Resource Fair at William Wirt Middle School to help Afghan families access local resources. We love our community!

SHC is proud to be among the organizations selected to receive a 2026-2027 Program Grant from the Montgomery Coalition for Adult English Literacy.
