International Submarine Races ISR 11

International Submarine Races ISR 11 Human Powered "Wet-Type" Submarine Races (tm) are held every other year to promote education and innovation in underwater navigation.

There are 28 submarines and 24 teams participating in the 11th International Submarine Race in 2011. The teams come from Canada, England, France, Mexico, Oman, USA and Venezuela. Each team must develop a one or two-person "Wet-type" submarine. Two-person subs must have one person providing the propulsion and the other navigating and steering. Crew members breathe SCUBA from the air supply carried

aboard. Each submarine is unique, designed from "scratch," and relies upon novel techniques for propulsion and guidance. Contestants include universities, high schools, individuals and research labs. Various awards are given out at each ISR, including ones for best overall performance, innovation, speed, speed by category, best use of composite materials and spirit of the race.
