Thank you to all those who attended ITFDC's Positive Discipline Training Workshop for early childhood educators, taught by Julianne Reilly, LICSW and Certified Positive Discipline Trainer!

This Sunday, ITFDC childcare providers learned about the core principles of Positive Discipline, a philosophy for early childhood education grounded in the idea that children learn positive behavior through respectful, kind, and encouraging guidance.

Positive Discipline teaches us that children learn best when they feel safe, respected, and connected! Connection before correction and kindness combined with firmness is an effective strategy for supporting the growth of long-term positive behavior.

This week, we would like to highlight one of our childcare providers for her dedication to nurturing, safe, and high-quality early childhood education! Salwa H. has been a childcare provider with ITFDC for over 20 years, and in her time with us, families have praised her patience and dedication to care.

One family stated that "We have SO loved working with Salwa and ITFDC! We are incredibly grateful for the care, support, and love Salwa has given both of our boys. We have enjoyed our time with Salwa, and we have been so thankful to have had such a wonderful and safe place for them to grow."

Thank you to Salwa for all of her tireless work to provide children with a strong, developmentally appropriate early education experience to assure that the children in her care will have the necessary skills to succeed in school and in life!

Join ITFDC in observing National Fire Prevention Week from October 4 through October 10!

In honor of National Fire Prevention Week, ITFDC encourages caregivers and childcare providers to take key fire-safety steps. Inspect your environment for potential hazards, and test all smoke alarms and fire extinguishers to ensure they work properly. Review and update your emergency preparedness plan, then go over it with staff to confirm everyone understands the procedures to follow in the event of a fire. Help keep children and programs safe through proactive prevention.

All Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department stations will have an open house on October 10th from 10 am - 4 pm. Bring your little ones with the whole family to learn more about fire safety!

On Saturday, ITFDC early childhood educators hosted an interactive workshop on early childhood learning through play!

Samina A., Faqraz M., Candy B., Analiza N., Mary B., Mariam S., and Ivania M. guided participants through the critical foundations for cognitive development in childhood. Presentations included early literacy, dramatic play, physical activity, arts & crafts, mathematics, and music.

At ITFDC, we understand that early education needs to be based on young children's primary learning mode - PLAY!

This week is Child Passenger Safety Week: September 20–26!

Child Passenger Safety Week is a reminder for child care providers and caregivers to always choose, install, and use car seats, booster seats, and seatbelts correctly when transporting children in vehicles. Virginia law requires children to ride in a safety seat through age seven. Many communities will offer free inspections by certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians on Saturday, September 26, National Seat Check Day.

Find free local car seat inspections near you: https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle-safety/car-seats-and-booster-seats -help-inspection

Additional requirements can be found on the Virginia Department of Health website: https://www.vdh.virginia.gov/child-passenger-safety/
