Heidi's Pantry - Fort Belvoir

Heidi's Pantry - Fort Belvoir Heidi's Pantry is dedicated to serving the military family, and beyond the gates in every way possible! You do not NEED to bring anything to participate.

Heidi's Pantry was started with the intention of making sure our kids and families eat right even on a tight budget. Usually money that is needed for an unexpected emergency is taken from our grocery money first making us sacrifice healthy fresh foods for quick fix, high sodium meals. What we have done is created a neighborhood food sharing program. You bring the food that sits in your cabinets th

at you won't use and come and take the items you need that others have brought. In the mean time, you get to meet your neighbors and make new friends. We also offer bread and veggies from our local food bank that is donated to us. Everything is free and is open to everyone no matter what your rank. This is not a place for "needy" people. This is simply intended to stretch our budgets and make sure we are all getting the healthy foods we need. If something comes up and you have a greater need than this, please come see me and we can help you out. Soon we will be able to offer meats and dairy items on a more regular basis. We also do coat/clothing drives, book swaps, Wounded Warrior programs, toy drives, and tons of other programs. And please, if you have any questions feel free to email us at [email protected] or stop by and see what we do. I have more food than I can get rid of and I really hate seeing this go to waste so please come out and help yourself to whatever we have to offer. We only have 1 rule: Only take what your family will eat or need for the following week because we do this every week and you can always come back the next week and get more. Hope to see you here

Just need to let everyone know I had to replace my phone this week and the geniuses who "backed everything up" wiped my contacts and photos clean. I have maybe 40 of the contacts out of over 1000 that were on my phone. If you would like to keep in touch with me via text messages, please send me a text message from your phone with your name in the subject line so I can add all my friends again please. I'm sorry I even have to do this, but thanks in advance

*****IMPORTANT HEIDI’S PANTRY ANNOUNCEMENT******

Good afternoon my friends. There is a lot of information in this message so please read everything.

This post is such an emotional one for me. We have received orders and will be PCS-ing in July. I can’t tell you how indifferent this news has made me feel. I am so worried to leave my military families and all my Virginia friends. Over the last 4 years, there have been several attempts to close down Heidi’s Pantry. Through hard work and so much help from many of you, both military and civilian supporters, we have been able to persevere and maintain assistance to so many families. I am proud to say that each year the number of families we have helped just keeps growing. Thanksgiving 2015 we assisted a total of 100 families, making sure they have a large Thanksgiving dinner as well as extra groceries to help out while the kids were home from school. Christmas 2015, our largest year yet, we assisted 100 families with food as well as a large Christmas dinner, but we also adopted over 250 kids, making sure they had gifts under the tree and in their stockings!!

I am so proud of the journey this has taken me on. I have met so many amazing people and been part of so many incredible things. There have been many ups and downs, but the happiness that I feel when I see the faces of the families that have been helped has filled my heart to overflowing.

So, the question remains, how will this continue? How will Heidi’s Pantry remain here to assist our families with food and clothing, support and friendship? I am so proud to say that Heidi’s Pantry is here to stay! It will grow and prosper! I am proud to announce Heidi’s Pantry at McLean Bible Church!!

Please come to our GRAND OPENING of the PARTNERSHIP between Heidi’s Pantry and the McLean Bible Church:

Saturday, 14 May 2016
1100-1300
McLean Bible Church
Community Room C
First Floor
8925 Leesburg Pike
Vienna, VA 22182

I’ve attached the flyer to this announcement. You must bring your Military ID or CAC Card in order to participate in this event. MBC will host Heidi’s Pantry food and clothing distribution to ALL MILITARY BRANCHES quarterly for this year:

May 14, 2016
August 27, 2016 – Food, clothing, back to school backpacks
Oct 29, 2016 – Food, winter clothing, winter coat distribution

We are working on time frame for Thanksgiving and Christmas so please keep posted for this information. More events will be added depending on the success and participation of each event.

In addition to our partnership, we are establishing a new page to keep you up to date on all programs and events going on.

www.facebook.com/HeidispantryatMBC

This page will be where to keep you posted on any and all Heidi’s Pantry events and activities happening at MBC for the Northern Virginia/DC/Maryland area. I will still be pressing on and starting up new Pantries, continuing to grow, as well as get the 501c3 necessary to get grants and federal assistance. You are welcome to contact me at any time, however, for anything going on with HP at MBC your point of contact will be Susan Kalaine. You can reach her at [email protected].

I hope to keep in touch with you and hear how your family is progressing, where you are, and would love to continue to see your posts and photos. Thank you all so much for helping each other and for being a part of this.

We assist enlisted and retired military families of all branches and ranks with monthly food pantry and clothing giveaways, financial planning, and more!

I found a bag of baby boy clothing. They are size 0 - 3 months and 0 -6 months. There are about 12 pairs of footie pjs and a few jackets, also a couple of sweat sets. If you would like them please contact me. I cannot hold them for days, I am trying to get as much out of my house as possible. I only ask that if you take them and can't use them you GIVE them to someone who can and do not sell them.

Available right now.

I look forward to speaking with you all and hope you are going to be as excited as I am about Saturday.

I have just a couple of children left that need to be adopted. I need all gifts by Dec 19th, unwrapped. Does anyone else want to adopt a child?

11/23/2015

I know it's not Thanksgiving yet, but I don't want this to be buried with everyone else's posts.

I want to say how thankful I am for so many kind hearted people. First there's the folks from the McLean Bible Church, with Susan Kalaine at the lead. These guys have helped me with Heidi's Pantry - Fort Belvoir for a full year now. They have made sure we have had dinners and extra groceries not only for our events, but also for open houses. They have helped us provide jackets for almost every single one of them. They have given me volunteers, which with what I do and my physical limitations, has been such an enormous help. I really can't say enough.

I'm thankful for Nalls Produce, and Valerie Nalls, who I am in constant contact about opportunities to help military families. Almost 100% of the vegetables and fruit we offer at every single open house comes from there. Not only that, but we are getting help with Thanksgiving meals as well. Thank you so very much for your kindness.

I'm thankful for the Springfield VFW, and their contact Linda Bond. For the last 2 years they have adopted entire families and made sure they have lots of food and more gifts than they imagined. They have supported me through clothing drive, jackets, food, and helping me with the ability to give tax receipts this year. They are so kind and understanding and I am thankful for them.

I'm thankful for the units on Fort Belvoir, the Girl Scouts, the Boy Scouts, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Omicron Theta Zeta Chapter, Mike Johnson and his co-workers, Sue Whelan and her co-workers, and so many others who took the time to help do canned food drives, coat or clothing drives, or make food donations to Heidi's Pantry so we would be assured to have enough food for the 90 families, YES 90 THIS YEAR, that we are helping. There is no way I could provide this without your help. You are amazing and I am truly grateful to have you on my side.

And then there are the families that volunteer. Andrea Barreiro and her family, Jacquie Florentino and Tim Florentino, Jeanelle Kuziw, Samantha Mendez-Diaz and Rafael Diaz, Elizabeth Brothers, and please forgive me if I forgot anyone. It is not intentional. These people have helped me set up, distribute, clean up, pick up food, store food, drop food off, helped with my kids because of my schedule, helped with food or clothing donations, have been my friends and let me vent when I'm frustrated, pack boxes, network to get families adopted and cared for for the holiday, and just so much more than I can say. They are my family and I am so so thankful to you for your help, love, and encouragement. I love you all so very much.

Finally, but certainly not the least, I'm thankful for my mother, Jean Hallock Light and my dad, Warren. Who encourage me and love me. Who repost when I need help, and brag about what I'm doing next. I love you both so much. My sister, Renee Santamour Curley, soon to be Hill, I love you for calling me to make sure I'm okay and checking on me. For sending me horrible jokes that make me want to wreck my car into a tree. And for helping me keep an eye on my babies. All my children, Anissa Nicole Vance, Kathleen, Amanda Contreras, Rebekkah, CJ, and Jonathan. You help, sometimes complain about it, but you do it anyway. You play with the kids that come in and show them love and compassion. You keep me grounded and make sure I'm always on my toes and forgive me when I forget something. Your unconditional love and support is all I ever need to survive and I love you with every beat of my heart, every breath I breathe, and every ounce of my being.

And, I'm thankful for my husband, Ronnie Vance. You say you are not a people person but you are always in the thick of it with me, talking to people, pulling food out of our freezer or cabinets to help others. You let me have my Pantry and support me 100% of the way. You make sure I eat when I forget to, you make sure I slow down, when I'm pushing too hard, and you love me with all you are. You are my everything and I am so thankful for you and appreciate everything you do for me and our children. I thank you for loving me and being my best friend. You give so much of yourself for us and I want you to know how much we all appreciate everything you do, especially the little things. You are the love of my life and I am nothing without you.

So, Happy Thanksgiving my dear friends. I wish you happiness, love, and prosperity. I hope you have a chance to spend time with your families, and if you are ever in need, you know where I am.

11/23/2015

Good morning friends. I am looking for anyone who works on Fort Belvoir and lives on Quantico. I have a family who was not able to pick up their Thanksgiving dinner and wanted to ask if someone would meet up with me and take it back to Quantico with them so the family would have it.

If you can help with this please contact me as soon as you can.

Thank you,
Christine Vance
