For Mr. C, a veteran, getting out of his home had become a challenge. He had already adapted his home so he could live on one level, but as his mobility declined, navigating the stairs to leave for medical appointments became increasingly difficult.

Our volunteer Team Leader had a solution: build a ramp from his back deck and add railings to create a safe path to the garage, where his wife can help him into the car.

And they gave their Saturday to make it happen.

We’re so grateful to this wonderful team who chose to spend their Saturday using their time and skills to help a neighbor. By the end of the day, Mr. C had something that can make a tremendous difference: a safer, more accessible way to leave his home and stay connected to the care he needs.

When a 93-year-old stroke survivor moved in with her daughter, an inaccessible bathroom made something as basic as taking a shower difficult and costly.

Rebuilding Together-AFF volunteers transformed the space into a safe, accessible bathroom—restoring dignity, reducing fall risk, and easing a financial burden for the family.

When Ms. H moved into her townhome in 1990, she didn't even notice that her front steps didn't have a railing. Now, as she ages in place, preventing falls has become a priority. That's where our RT Express volunteers stepped in.

Our team completed 10 critical repairs, including installing a new exterior handrail, second railings on two interior staircases, and a bathroom grab bar—simple modifications that make a life-changing difference. Thanks to these improvements and more, Ms. H's home now meets all 25 of Rebuilding Together's health and safety priorities, helping her remain safe, independent, and confident in her own home.

While hundreds of volunteers from our partner teams were hard at work on National Rebuilding Day this April, our dedicated RT Express volunteers showed up, too!

Our RT Express teams completed repairs at four homes, making them safer, healthier, and more accessible. These Saturday projects are especially important because they give our working volunteers—who can't always join us on weekday mornings—the opportunity to put their skills to work for homeowners in need.

Whether it's installing handrails, repairing hazards, improving accessibility, or tackling deferred maintenance, every repair helps someone remain safe and independent in the home they love.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible RT Express volunteers for giving up part of your weekend to make a lasting difference. You prove that every project, no matter the size, changes lives.

A huge thank you to our friends at Pella Mid-Atlantic, Inc. for supporting us through their third annual Grille & Chill event at their Tysons showroom!

The evening brought together great food, wonderful company, and generous supporters. We are incredibly grateful to be the beneficiary of Pella's fantastic raffle, which will help Rebuilding Together Arlington/Fairfax/Falls Church continue providing critical home repairs and accessibility modifications for our neighbors in need.

Your generosity helps older adults, individuals living with disabilities, and families with limited incomes remain safe, healthy, and independent in the homes they love.

St St. Mary's Episcopal Church showed what it means to serve the community with compassion and dedication.

More than 50 volunteers contributed 250+ hours transforming the outdoor and indoor spaces at a CRi group home for adults with disabilities.

Together, they built a beautiful flagstone walkway, solved drainage issues keep water away from the home's foundation, installed new stair railings and grab bars to improve safety and accessibility and replaced rotten wood on the back porch to make it safe again. The team freshened the home's interior with new paint, creating bright, welcoming spaces for the residents and created a new patio and planted flowers and greenery, giving residents a comfortable outdoor space to enjoy fresh air and relax.

Projects like this are about so much more than repairs. They're about creating safe, welcoming homes where people can thrive and building connections between volunteers and neighbors that last well beyond a single day.

Psi Alpha Alpha Chapter, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc

On , this multi-generational team came together to help Mrs. B and her brother, who has disabilities, remain safe and comfortable in their home.

As the years passed, keeping up with home maintenance became more difficult—but no one should have to face those challenges alone.

The volunteer team completed safety repairs and modifications that will make a real difference every day, including:
improving outdoor lighting, repairing door locks and handles to help them feel more secure, replacing the dryer duct for fire safety
Installing a new garage door gasket to help keep pests out, and
Installing grab bars and a shower seat to reduce the risk of falls

The team also refreshed the interior with a new coat of paint, creating a brighter, more welcoming space that helps Mrs. B and her brother feel proud of and uplifted by their surroundings.

These repairs aren't just about fixing a house—they're about preserving independence, dignity, and quality of life.

An amazing team from our longstanding partner, Ox Hill Baptist Church, came together on to help Ms. E at her Reston home, where she has lived since 1986. Living with health challenges and a disability, Ms. E needed a helping hand—and this team of volunteers delivered with skill, compassion, and heart.

Together they completed major work in the yard by removing a shed, repairing the fence, and doing a major clean-up of overgrown plants, branches and leaves. They cleaned gutters to ensure rainwater flows away from the home's foundation and installed new exterior lighting to improve safety. Much was also accomplished inside including repairing bathroom walls and replacing the bathroom floor with durable vinyl plank flooring, and repairing a water-damaged ceiling.

Beyond the long list of repairs accomplished, it was a day filled with fellowship, teamwork, and the satisfaction of helping a neighbor remain safely in the home she has cherished for nearly 40 years.

Mount Zion Baptist Church

For many years, Mt. Zion Baptist Church has supported us through generous donations, volunteer service, and a shared commitment to helping neighbors in need. We were delighted to partner with them again for .

A team of 17 volunteers contributed 136 hours of service to help Ms. R, who has lived in her Arlington home since she was 10 years old and now shares it with her daughter.

The team completed a variety of repairs and safety modifications including installing new outdoor lighting and a stair rail, repairing kitchen cabinets, installing smoke and co detectors, redirecting downspouts, completing yard work, and replacing Ms. R's broken dishwasher and clothes dryer—her favorite improvements.

The day also provided an opportunity for learning, as one of our longtime volunteers taught a team member how to replace a light fixture, leaving him smiling with pride at his new skill.
