This month’s presentation, “Las Vegas Cybertruck Case,” takes a deep look at device function, vehicle platform considerations, blast dynamics within an electric vehicle structure, and the interagency response that followed. The case provides important lessons for bomb squads and fire investigators as they navigate emerging threats involving modern EV platforms in high profile environments.
Our speakers for the event will be Jamie Sypniewicz and Mr. Stephen Shelley.
Jamie is Fire Investigations Chief and Bomb Squad Commander for Las Vegas Fire & Rescue. With over 25 years of experience as a Fire Investigator, Bomb Technician, Hazardous Material Technician, and Paramedic, Chief Sypniewicz brings extensive knowledge and real world expertise. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fire and Emergency Services Administration from the College of Southern Nevada and multiple professional certifications, including CFI, CVFI, and CFEI. She remains an active member of several professional organizations in fire investigation and bomb disposal.
Stephen Shelley is a Senior Explosives Enforcement Officer and Bomb Technician Project Officer with the Bureau of Alcohol, To***co, Fi****ms and Explosives (ATF) at the National Center for Explosives Training and Research (NCETR). He has more than 30 years of experience in explosives, bomb disposal, and explosives investigations. He currently helps manage the ATF’s Bomb Technician Program at NCETR, with responsibility for program policy, equipment evaluation and acquisition, and coordination of bomb technician training.
