There's nothing quite like watching a child experience the freedom of riding a bike.

Variety – The Children's Charity of the National Capital Region is excited to share that we have 10+ adaptive bikes available for children and youth with disabilities throughout Washington, DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia!

For many families, adaptive bikes are life-changing—but they can also come with a hefty price tag and are rarely covered by insurance. That's why we're so excited to help connect these bikes with children who will truly benefit from them.

✨ If your child has a disability and could benefit from an adaptive bike, we'd love to hear from you.

While the number of bikes is limited, our commitment to the disability community is not. We'll thoughtfully review every message and application and do our very best to match as many children as possible with a bike that meets their needs.

We also encourage therapists, physicians, schools, disability organizations, and friends to tag a family or share this post so it reaches those who may not know this opportunity exists.

How do you deliver 100+ sensory bags to children and individuals who need them most?

With the help of incredible volunteers, dedicated partners, and a community that believes everyone deserves the tools to thrive. 💙

Variety DC was proud to deliver 30 sensory bags to Catholic Charities DC's Developmental Disabilities Services program. These bags are filled with sensory-friendly tools designed to help individuals regulate, engage, and participate more comfortably in everyday activities.

We're grateful to our partners at Catholic Charities for the life-changing work they do every day to support individuals with developmental disabilities throughout our community.

Because inclusion isn't just about opening doors—it's about ensuring everyone has what they need once they walk through them.

Nothing makes us smile more than seeing a child embrace newfound independence and joy!

This adaptive bike is already making a difference for one student at Sycolin Creek Elementary. According to Assistant Principal Katie H.:

"Immediately upon arrival, he verbally requested the bike! He is LOVING it, and it has already become a meaningful part of his daily schedule."

At VarietyDC, we're proud to help children of all abilities experience the freedom, confidence, and fun that comes with riding a bike.

🚲✨ Cheers for Charlie! ✨🚲

Charlie hadn’t quite mastered riding a traditional two-wheeled bike — but that didn’t stop his determination to ride alongside his friends. 💙

Once Charlie received his brand new Mobo Mobito Cruiser from VarietyDC, he was OFF! The freedom, confidence, and joy on his face said it all.

And the very best part?
Charlie can now proudly join his peers in the weekly bike parade to school! 🎉🚴‍♂️

Our hearts are full. Last week, we had the privilege of visiting our incredible partners at Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, MD, and witnessing firsthand the life-changing work they do every day to empower individuals with disabilities and support their families. Their dedication, compassion, and commitment were truly inspiring.

VarietyDC was proud to strengthen this partnership by delivering 40+ sensory bags to the Kennedy Krieger team to help serve their community and create more inclusive, supportive experiences for those they reach. Thank you to the Jake Cassell Fund for Special Needs for your generosity in supporting this initiative- your belief in Variety helps us serve countless more families. We appreciate you.
