Helping Children Worldwide Helping children worldwide by strengthening & empowering their family & community. Come join us.

A global mission anchored to be financially healthy, provide leadership, link resources to need, focus on family & community, equip & empower local ownership of solutions to poverty. Helping Children Worldwide supports child welfare reforms that favor strengthening and empowering families and works in collaboration with the Child Reintegration Centre in Sierra Leone, West Africa. Helping Children

Worldwide supports global health service solutions that favor local ownership, and works in collaboration with Mercy Hospital in Sierra Leone. We work with program partners and mission-focused volunteers to prepare capacity-building and collaborative teams and deploy them overseas. We bring capable partners together to work virtually in collaborative efforts, with those interested in traveling in short-term and long-term mission trips to work hand-in-hand with our partners on the ground in Africa. We recruit family empowerment advocates to support the work of equipping and empowering local ownership of solutions that end child poverty and generational poverty and support child and family dignity. We connect like-minded individuals to tackle systemic concerns and root problems, not symptoms.

"Children do not just need care, they need families."

Ten years ago, the Child Reintegration Centre (CRC) and Helping Children Worldwide made a radically courageous decision: to transition their work in Sierra Leone away from an orphanage model and toward family-based care.

Join us today, June 3rd at 12:00 PM EST for a special Facebook Live with Laura and Nabs.

It’s one thing to say we believe children belong in families. It’s another thing entirely to dismantle a decade-old model to make that belief a reality.

Ten years ago, the Child Rescue Centre began a radical transition from residential care to family-based care. It wasn't just a strategy shift; it was a heart shift. We were on the front edge of this work in West Africa, navigating uncharted territory with a mix of deep conviction and, honestly, some fear.

We aren't just sharing a "success story." We’re having an honest conversation about:
✅ What we did well: How we kept the child’s best interest as our "North Star."
⚠️ The Hindsight: What we wish we had done differently and the lessons learned the hard way.
❤️ The Gratitude & Grief: How we navigate the tension between changing for the better and wishing we had known the truth sooner.

Whether you are a donor, a child welfare advocate, or someone who simply cares about the world’s most vulnerable children, this conversation is for you. Let’s bridge the gap between what we believe and what we do.

"Every child, everywhere, in every way."

That tagline is more than a slogan—it’s a commitment to the belief that children thrive best in safe, loving, permanent families. Today is International Day of Families, and we’re sharing why we refuse to treat family separation as an acceptable answer to poverty.

From case management to microfinance, the work of our local allies ensures that families stay together and children stay protected. When we support the people and systems that help children thrive, we create a stronger future for the whole community.

At Helping Children Worldwide, we believe in empowering local ownership and global leadership. Today, we celebrate a leader who embodied these anchors: Reverend Olivia Fonnie.

During her time as Director of the Child Reintegration Centre (CRC), Rev. Fonnie oversaw a critical evolution in our systems-strengthening approach. Her leadership was instrumental in:

🚸Transitioning care toward family-based reintegration.

❤️‍🩹Expanding education, healthcare, and economic support for vulnerable communities.

🎉Leading the CRC through its landmark 25th anniversary.

We are proud to see her transition to Lead Pastor at Charles Davies UMC. Her journey is a testament to the power of Radical Collaboration between faith-based leadership and social impact.

Join us in thanking Rev. Fonnie for her years of faithful service! 🇸🇱❤️

We are empowering the next generation of global healthcare leaders and we invite you to do the same 💪

Today, on International Nurses Day, we honor the vital role of nurses worldwide. We are especially proud to highlight Madiana Golia. Golia family benefits from family strengthening support provided by Child Reintegration Center, and Madiana’s education has been a part of that support. She’s now completing her final year of Nursing at Njala University in Sierra Leone.

Madiana has secured a critical internship with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). This hands-on experience is a cornerstone of our commitment to:

🛖Equipping local ownership

🏥Strengthening healthcare systems

🎓Breaking the cycle of poverty through professional education

This milestone was made possible through the dedicated support of her Case Manager, Abdulai. His consistent guidance and teamwork exemplify our value of Radical Collaboration, ensuring that every student has the mentorship they need to transition from the classroom to the workforce.

Madiana’s journey—supported by Abdulai and our partners—is a testament to the long-term impact of sustained support and the importance of global partnerships in creating resilient communities.

Being on the ground with our allies is always a humbling reminder of why our Mother’s Day campaign is so vital. Today, I’m shadowing the incredible healthcare team here to see how they are tackling maternal and infant health in one of the most challenging regions in the world.

Whether it’s the Maya Mam midwives in Guatemala, the team in Haiti, or here at Mercy Hospital in Sierra Leone, the mission is the same: Dignity in birth for every mother.

It’s Mother’s Day, and there is no better way to celebrate than by ensuring more mothers have the chance to watch their children grow.

Maternal health is a human right, yet for many Indigenous mothers, that right is obstructed by systemic barriers: language gaps, geographical distance, and cultural exclusion.

This Mother’s Day, we are proud to highlight the work of Naye Xjaw Maya Midwifery International. 🌿

In rural Guatemala, they are revolutionizing maternal health by:

Empowering 100+ Maya Mam midwives as recognized healthcare leaders.

Bridging the gap between ancestral knowledge and biomedical strategies.

Reducing mortality through a model of care that is free from discrimination and grounded in dignity.

True health equity requires more than just medical supplies—it requires a commitment to Indigenous Reproductive Health Sovereignty. Today, we celebrate the midwives who ensure every mother is seen, heard, and respected.
