Volunteers are the driving force behind RTI. That's why we're grateful for Sam and Debbie, two of our most devoted volunteers!

They have taught people how to drive using their own car, helped people navigate the DMV, participated in fundraising, taken on a leadership role, and even let people use their car to take the road test.

This week, there is a special cause to celebrate. Debbie got two Afghan sisters across the finish line when the second sister passed her road test yesterday. This took 10 hours of professional driving instruction and even more practice with Debbie.

Some good news on this rainy Sunday afternoon!
1. Yesterday, 5 students attended our continued in-person classes, which are 100% paid for by generous donors like you.
2. Late yesterday morning, the ride home for one of the students fell through. Within a couple hours, a volunteer heroically stepped in and agreed to drive her home!
3. A client that we originally started helping almost a year ago finally got his license. There were a lot of stops and starts and many volunteer hours involved, but he did it!
4. We just passed 160 served, 97 of whom are women.

Yesterday, we asked for help for two Afghan women who are determined to learn to drive. Today, we have a third! Tamana lives in Herndon. We need someone to practice driving with her for 10 hours. It’s hard to find volunteers in that area, but we’re hopeful! Click the link below to sign up or share with your friends in the Herndon area. Palwasha needs a ride to driving school on Saturday morning. Class starts at 8 a.m. This is an easy way to help, if teaching a person how to drive isn't for you! She is days away from the opportunities that a driver's license will provide her. Female volunteers only, please!

Today RTI is celebrating the return of in-classroom driving classes! This is a game-changer for many families, since classes with an online component can be extremely difficult for nonnative speakers.

One Way Driving School is partnering with us to provide this service to the Afghan community. We are so grateful for all our driving school partners, donors, and volunteers who are making access to transportation and prosperity possible for these families.

What went into helping these 5 students learn to drive?

5 volunteers helped them practice driving and gave them rides to
and from class.

36 volunteer hours were spent on intake, driving practice, and rides to and from class.

115 total hours were spent learning how to drive, including volunteer hours and also professional hours from schools like NOVA Driving School VA!

Generous donors provided $3,775 to pay for both on-the-road and in-person lessons for these clients.
