Celebrating Women’s Equality Day 2026

Wednesday, August 26, 2026

“Equal Roads. Equal Opportunities. Stronger Together.”

Today we celebrate the women who continue to shape the future of cycling, leadership, and our communities.

Women’s Equality Day commemorates the certification of the 19th Amendment, recognizing a historic milestone in expanding voting rights for women. It also reminds us that progress is achieved when every voice is valued, every rider is respected, and every individual has the opportunity to lead.

What Women’s Equality Means to Major Taylor Houston Cycling Club

🚴 Every Rider Matters
We believe every cyclist deserves respect, encouragement, and the opportunity to succeed regardless of gender.

🤝 We Ride as One Team
Whether leading the pace line, mentoring a new cyclist, volunteering at an event, or serving in leadership, women strengthen every mile we ride together.

🌟 Leadership Through Service
We celebrate the women who organize rides, mentor new members, support charitable initiatives, advocate for cycling safety, and inspire others to live healthier lives.

❤️ Building Community
Our strength comes from creating an environment where everyone feels welcomed, included, and empowered to reach their personal best.

Our Commitment

“As members of Major Taylor Houston Cycling Club, we honor the achievements of women past and present. We are committed to fostering a cycling community built on respect, opportunity, inclusion, teamwork, and excellence—because when every rider has an equal chance to thrive, our entire community becomes stronger.”

What a GREAT ride today! 🚴🏾‍♀️🔥

MTHCC rolled out of Community Park with all four groups hitting the road and, most importantly, everyone made it back safely! 🙌🏾

The energy, camaraderie, and support across every pace group were exactly what makes our club special. 💪🏾❤️

And we capped it off with our August Birthday Celebration! 🎂🎉 Shoutout to all of our August birthday riders—we’re glad you celebrated with us!

Great miles. Great people. Great vibes. That’s MTHCC! 🚴🏾‍♂️🚴🏾‍♀️

🏆 LEADING ON & OFF THE BIKE! 🏆

Major Taylor Houston Cycling Club is proud to congratulate our Ride Director, Veronica Whitworth, Veronica Whitworth on an outstanding performance at the Chocolate City Criterium in Washington, D.C. this past Saturday!

🚴🏾‍♀️ Veronica placed 6th out of 29 in the Women’s 4/5 race — a Top 21% finish! 🔥

But Veronica’s impact goes far beyond race results. As our Ride Director, she leads on the bike and off the bike—creating opportunities for riders, building community, encouraging participation, and helping move our club forward.

Then she takes that same leadership, discipline, and determination to the race course.

She doesn’t just talk about leadership—she rides it. 💪🏾

Congratulations, Veronica! Your MTHCC family is proud of you!

🚴🏾‍♂️Juneteenth Community Ride Announcement🚴🏾‍♀️

Juneteenth is more than a date on the calendar. It commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas finally learned of their freedom—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is a celebration of freedom delayed, resilience endured, and progress continued.
That significance deserves intention.

This year’s Juneteenth Community Ride represents the power of collaboration between Major Taylor Houston Cycling Club, Motherland Cycling Club, and Justice League Cycling Club. Cross-club partnerships don’t happen by accident—they require conversations, alignment, shared vision, and mutual respect. The extra time invested reflects our commitment to unity over urgency.

We couldn’t be more excited about one of the highlights of this ride: our journey to the newly opened Hill at Sims overlooking Sims Bayou in Houston. This transformational 100-acre greenspace is the first major new park investment in Sunnyside in nearly 50 years and features scenic overlooks, nearly five miles of trails, public art, and connections to the Sims Bayou Greenway. It stands as a symbol of community investment, environmental resilience, and equitable access to outdoor spaces. The park itself was built through public-private partnerships—making it a fitting destination for a ride centered on collaboration and legacy.
