🚴🏾‍♂️Juneteenth Community Ride Announcement🚴🏾‍♀️

Juneteenth is more than a date on the calendar. It commemorates June 19, 1865, when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas finally learned of their freedom—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is a celebration of freedom delayed, resilience endured, and progress continued.
That significance deserves intention.

This year’s Juneteenth Community Ride represents the power of collaboration between Major Taylor Houston Cycling Club, Motherland Cycling Club, and Justice League Cycling Club. Cross-club partnerships don’t happen by accident—they require conversations, alignment, shared vision, and mutual respect. The extra time invested reflects our commitment to unity over urgency.

We couldn’t be more excited about one of the highlights of this ride: our journey to the newly opened Hill at Sims overlooking Sims Bayou in Houston. This transformational 100-acre greenspace is the first major new park investment in Sunnyside in nearly 50 years and features scenic overlooks, nearly five miles of trails, public art, and connections to the Sims Bayou Greenway. It stands as a symbol of community investment, environmental resilience, and equitable access to outdoor spaces. The park itself was built through public-private partnerships—making it a fitting destination for a ride centered on collaboration and legacy.

May is all about celebrating the joy, freedom, and power of cycling—and we’re riding ALL month long! 💪🏾🔥

Here are a few key things happening during National Bike Month:

🗓️ Bike to Work Week (May 13–19)
Swap the car for the bike and ride to work (even if it’s just one day!). It’s about showing up, being visible, and representing cyclists in our communities.

🚴🏾‍♂️ Bike to Work Day (Friday, May 17)
Let’s flood the streets! If you can ride in that day—DO IT. Post it, tag it, and rep MTHCC strong 💯

🌙 National Ride a Bike Day (May 5)
A perfect excuse to just get out and spin—no pressure, just ride.

🕯️ National Ride of Silence (May 20)
We ride in honor of fallen cyclists and to raise awareness for road safety. This is always a powerful, meaningful ride. (Stay tuned for post - hosted by Bike Houston)
