B-W Greenway Community Land Trust

B-W Greenway Community Land Trust The "B" in the B-W represents the Beaver Creek Wetlands, the "W" represents the Estel Wenrick Wetlands.

B-W Greenway Community Land Trust is a private, member-supported, not-for-profit (501c3) conservation organization serving communities in western Greene and Clark Counties in Ohio. Our approach is to develop and implement strategies that fulfill the following goals:

· Preserve and promote natural corridors between the Beaver Creek and Wenrick Wetlands as a link in the Greater Dayton Greenbelt
· P

rotect ground and surface water
· Encourage sustainable agriculture
· Preserve and enhance native plant, wildlife and aquatic habitats
· Minimize pollution and consumption, including redeveloping Brownfields
· Foster sustainable land use principles through education and technical assistance
· Cultivate a sense of place based on respect for the natural, cultural and historic environment

Our Name. We chose not to include the full names of the wetlands in "our name" to avoid confusion with the Beaver Creek Wetlands Association (BCWA). We value the amazing work this grassroots organization has done and don't want to do anything to detract from their progress. Several of our members belong to BCWA and have participated in their projects.

· "Greenway" represents our goal of connecting the two wetlands with as much green space as possible.
· "Community" was added to emphasize that "humans" live in our greenway and that we want to develop a "sense of place."

You’re Invited! Geology Hike – Oakes Quarry Park

In collaboration with City of Fairborn Parks, join Ohio Department of Natural Resources geologists Mark Peter, Andy Nash, and Chris Waid for a hike to “Unearth a Story” in Oakes Quarry Park.

Hikers will learn about Ohio’s geologic history with a close look at an ancient fossil coral reef and evidence of Ice Age glaciers that passed over the area. There will also be an opportunity to collect fossils.

Participants should meet at the trailhead near the parking lot for a mild to moderate hike. Hikers are encouraged to wear sturdy hiking boots, bring hiking/walking sticks, and have plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, and bug spray.
The event is free and recommended for ages 5 and up.
