On World Mental Health Day, we’re carrying this week’s message forward: hope grows when people can find understanding, reliable information, and support.

NAMI Fairbanks offers free, peer-led support groups for adults living with mental health conditions and for family members and loved ones. We also help people explore resources and mental health education.

If you’ve been wondering where to begin, you’re welcome to contact us. You don’t have to wait for an awareness week to reach out.

Keep our information handy—or share it with someone who may need it.

A person’s culture, language, background, and life experiences can shape what it means to seek help—and what feels welcoming when help is offered.

Mental health research and support should reflect the communities they serve. Here in Interior Alaska, listening to different experiences is part of building understanding.

We can each help make our community more welcoming: ask instead of assuming, listen with respect, and speak about people living with mental illness with dignity.

Share this reminder with someone who cares about a more compassionate Fairbanks.

Today is National Depression Screening Day—a reminder that concerns about your mental health deserve attention.

A screening can help identify concerns to discuss with a health care professional. It does not provide a diagnosis.

If you’ve been concerned about how you’re feeling, consider talking with your health care provider. You can also contact NAMI Fairbanks for information, resource navigation, and free support opportunities for individuals and families.

You don’t have to find every answer on your own.

Young people deserve adults who listen and take their mental health concerns seriously.

You can start with a simple invitation: “I’ve noticed you haven’t seemed like yourself. How are you doing?” Then make room for the answer.

NAMI Fairbanks’ Ending the Silence presentations help students, school staff, and families learn about mental health warning signs and how to seek support. Through our partnership with the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District, we’re helping bring these conversations into our schools.

Contact us to learn about Ending the Silence or ask about a presentation.

Understanding mental illness continues to grow. Research and the experiences of people receiving care both have a place in that progress.

For a person or family sorting through a new diagnosis, finding understandable information can be a meaningful first step.

NAMI Fairbanks can help you explore mental health information, local resources, and free education and support opportunities. You don’t need to have all your questions figured out before contacting us.

Mental Illness Awareness Week is October 4–10. This year, NAMI is highlighting how science and lived experience come together to build hope.

People living with serious mental illnesses—including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depression—have knowledge that deserves to be heard. Listening helps us challenge stigma and better understand what support can look like.

Here in Fairbanks, our peer-led support groups offer a place to connect with people who understand. You can share at your own pace.

Help make room for these conversations. Share this post so someone in our community knows support is available.

Melanie’s winning ticket was drawn last night at our Dessert Auction & Art Show, and she is taking home two round-trip tickets on Alaska Airlines!

Thank you to everyone who purchased raffle tickets this year. Every ticket was more than a chance to win—it helped support NAMI Fairbanks and keep our mental health programs and services free for our community.

And a big thank you to Alaska Airlines for making this annual raffle possible through their generous donation. 💚
