MISSING CONURE (Anchorage/Muldoon& Glen Hwy/Turpin St)
A nightmare scenario: this bird has disappeared from her house and the owners have no idea what happened. She was not in her cage yesterday. They searched the house top to bottom and haven't found her. They're thinking she may have gotten out unnoticed when someone was using the door.
Please keep an eye out and let us know if you see her in northeast Anchorage.

UPDATE: FOUND! And caught.
Little Miss Zazu decided to fly down to get people after being out for a day.
We are all very relieved.
MISSING QUAKER PARROT (Wasilla/Wasilla-Fishhook Rd/E Big Rock Rd):
Zazu got out last night at dusk. There are tons of talk trees so she flew out of sight. Please watch for her!
If a tiny voice in the trees near there tells you to c'mere or says peek-a-boo, it's probably her.
If you find her, please text or call our lost & found at 351.2762.

POLL TIME: we've recently been asked about sanctuaries where someone can send a parrot to live out its life as a bird rather than being repeatedly rehomed. The latest person to bring it up has a larger parrot that has become very aggressive and unhappy, which impacts the entire household. Do any of you have sanctuary recommendations?

Meet Buddy, the green cheek conure!

Buddy is a 9 year old female (has laid eggs) and is looking for her new home with someone she can bond with. Her relinquishing owner says that she can prefer some people over others but loves attention and likes to be talked to. She also enjoys dancing to music and sunbathing. She does fly a little and likes to whistle and chatter while hanging out on her cage. She does have two cages that will go with her home. Her diet is conure seed mix and fruit.

We have a super-cool meeting tomorrow on Zoom at 6pm! Our meetings are generally members-only, but we are opening this one for all to attend.

Have you ever met an Egyptologist? Sure, we see them on TV and movies looking all cool with their hieroglyphs and sarcophagi and well-preserved ancient honey... but have you ever talked to one? About BIRDS?

We are all in luck with our August 4 Zoom meeting! Egyptologist, author, and educator Dr Colleen Darnell has agreed to speak to us on roles of and relationships with birds in ancient Egypt. We are very excited for this outside-the-box meeting topic.

**NOTE** Since Dr. Darnell is on the east coast, we have bumped this meeting from 7pm to 6pm, one hour earlier than usual.

Zoom link in comments.

I'm Dr. Colleen Darnell, an Egyptologist, author and educator. I bring the rich history and culture of ancient Egypt to worldwide audiences.

Meet T***s the Yellow-naped Amazon!

T***s is an older Amazon with an estimated age of 40 – 45 years ago. His relinquishing owner states that he is bonded to her but does not care for the other human males in the home. He is not social with other birds and would likely do best in a single bird household where he can receive lots of love and attention. He has a cage, play stand and carrier cage that will go with him to his new home.

Crybaby is a 29 year old Ducorp's cockatoo who has been DNA sexed as female.

Her relinquishing owner states that she enjoys attention, including head scritches and cuddle time on shoulders. She likes music and will dance and bop her head. She does say a few words. She loves shredding boxes and paper bags and likes to spend the majority of her time out of her cage.

She does not like phones or eyeglasses, and is wary of visitors. She can be jealous of others getting attention from her owner.

She has lived with another bird but is not bonded to them. She will occasionally attempt to fly to the other bird's play stand and is immediately separated by the owner. She has never caused an injury to the other bird so could be fine with other avian family members with close supervision.

She is missing a rear toe on each foot. She also requires dremel trimming for her lower beak or it may overgrow.

She enjoys a varied diet including fruit, veggies and Zupreem fruit blend pellets.
