The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner "Midnight Sun Run" is a uniquely Alaskan event that attracts participants from all over the world. More than just a running race, the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner "Midnight Sun Run" is a uniquely Alaskan event that attracts participants from all over the country. The 10K popular community race has been overseen by the Midnight Sun Run nonprofit organization for over 30 years, with the Fairbanks Daily News Miner as the title sponsor. Proceeds from the race benefit the Fairbanks Resource Agency (fra-alaska.org) who is currently producing the event, and scholarships are awarded to local student athletes. The Midnight Sun Run relies on hundreds of volunteers from across the community, and volunteers are most welcome. Visit https://midnightsunrun.net/volunteer/ to become a volunteer. The Midnight Sun Run attracts over 3,500 participants, from the elite runners who are aiming to break the finish line ribbon to back of the pack strollers simply out to have a good time. Even those who don’t enter the race have opportunities to enjoy the event. The race course, which starts at the UAF Patty Center and ends at Pioneer Park, meanders though a number of Fairbanks neighborhoods, where spectators are often times lined up elbow to elbow to cheer the runners on. The Midnight Sun Run has been a part of the Fairbanks community since 1982. Many of our aging community members have been past participants, and remember the experience very fondly. Recognizing the importance of continued community involvement in beloved traditions, the Pioneer Home and Timber Creek Senior Living each put together a program that allowed residents to participate in a virtual Midnight Sun Run. It was an honor to meet everyone!

The afternoon rain let up just in time for the start line to hear a land acknowledgement delivered by Dr. Sarah James and to experience a very special performance by Dene Eslaanh' Athabascan Dance Group. The land acknowledgement and performance were the perfect way to open start line festivities, and we are so grateful!
