Community members and Animal Control stepped up to help 40+ dogs recently and while the situation is heartbreaking, we’re grateful that positive steps are being taken.
Animal Control professionals handle welfare checks every day while balancing public safety, Alaska law, due process and the constant scrutiny from the public that claim they can do the job better. Their work often goes unseen and unappreciated and that is so unfortunate. We appreciate their commitment, compassion, and diligence in serving both people and animals in our community.
Situations involving animals are complex. Quick assumptions and online speculation does not help the dogs or the people doing the work. Let’s commit to: asking questions, sharing verified info, supporting official channels, and volunteering where we can.
To those who documented, fostered, donated, and coordinated: THANK YOU. To FNSB Animal Control: we see you, we appreciate you, and we’re grateful for your service to people and animals in our community.
Stay educated on local animal laws: Alaska statutes and borough codes are nuanced, especially around working dogs. If you want to understand the laws or get involved in shaping policy, attend FNSB Assembly meetings, connect with Animal Control for educational materials, or volunteer with local rescues.
How you can help right now:
Support these dogs directly: Coldspot Feeds has an account set up for “Two Rivers Sled Dogs.” Gift cards help fosters buy supplies. Call (907) 457-8555.
Though we do not know which fosters or rescues these dogs ended up with we do know that there are also sled dogs already in the long term care of these facilities seeking homes that also need support: Fairbanks Animal Shelter, The Shelter Fund, The August Fund, and Sirius Sled Dog Rescue.
