Friends of Creamer's Field is hosting Mycorrhizal Mysteries in their Farmhouse Visitor Center, Saturday, Oct 17, noon -4 pm. Mycorrhizal Mysteries event includes crafts, educational materials, activities, and a fungi walk lead by Fairbanks Mycology Society.

Last Tuesday foray report: What a nice crisp autumn evening of collecting mushroom from between fallen birch leaves. We found a plethora of agaric diversity, including large woodwaxes, inky caps, orange milk caps, many clitocyboid shaped mushrooms (including a blewit!), and of course, a few perfect Amanita muscaria.

The Fairbanks Mycological Society will be hosting a mushroom walk this Wednesday, September 23rd, at 6pm. This community foray will be around the 1.3 mile Chena River Nature Trail loop within the Chena Lake Recreation Area in North Pole. We will be meeting at 6pm at the trailhead, which can be found at these coordinated [64.79462, -147.19815]. After the loop trail, we will congregate under the pavilion to lay out our interesting mushroom finds and identify them further with guidebooks. Come share your mushroom knowledge or learn from those who know more. Parts of the trail may be muddy so dress appropriately. I will be there rain or shine. No sign up required.

Much Ado About Mushrooms was a hit. Anna Kindberg gave a presentation packed with fun fungi facts. A volunteer spent the day collecting mushrooms for the event, and others also brought in a familiar and unidentified fungi. Christin Swearingen joined Anna to review the collected fungi with the fungi fans. There were familiar faces from the Fairbanks Fungi Festival and some new faces. A shout out to Noel Wien Library for hosting this event.

Next event: The Fairbanks Fungi Society is planning an evening foray to Chena Lakes Recreational Wednesday, Sept 23, 6:30 pm at the Chena River Nature Trail. This is a fun group activity to share your knowledge and questions with other curious folks. Please no dogs during the foray. Children must bring an adult with them!
