AGWA/UAW is a group of graduate students/ Academic Student Employees (ASEs) who are trying to unionize as graduate workers at UAA, UAF, and UAS in partnership with UAW.

10/14/26. Ian’s got our third bargaining update! Today, graduate workers passed proposals on 6 articles in our CBA, addressing wages, personnel benefits, grievances, transitional funding, and intellectual property.

To our frustration, UA has not offered any meaningful counterproposals, responded to our request for information, or agreed to TA articles that AGWA and UA both agree on.

We need to demonstrate to UA that graduate workers are ready to fight for fair working conditions. Visit agwa.uaw1907.org/bargaining center to sign up for membership or to join the Contract Action Team and build power with your coworkers to support a strong contract!

Elijah and Chena have an update for you about our second bargaining session! Rather than responding to the proposals we submitted last week, UA gave us a proposal of the full contract that severely erodes our existing wages, healthcare benefits, tuition and fee waivers, ability to resolve discrimination issues, inclusion of fellows in the bargaining unit, and ability to collect dues.

AGWA’s bargaining committee passed proposals on immigrant and international worker protections, strengthening our rights as a union, and maintaining well-functioning aspects of our existing contract.

Come to The Pub at 5 tomorrow (Thursday 10/1) to hear more about bargaining, meet fellow graduate workers, and learn what you can do to help win a strong contract!

Check out this update from Sarah and Jovi about our first bargaining session with UA admin! We presented our initial bargaining demands (big thanks to all the members who signed on! ✊), established ground rules, and passed our first proposal on Union Security.

TOMORROW (Thursday, 2/26) at 4pm, Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins will be in town and wants to talk to UA graduate workers about living, working, and studying in Alaska.

Come out to Murie 321 (the lounge area on the third floor) for snacks and conversation.
