Young Alaskans—and their attorneys—vowed to keep fighting Friday after the Alaska Supreme Court's split decision denying their right to bring a constitutional case challenging the state's fossil fuels policy.

"Today’s decision is extremely disappointing. There is overwhelming evidence that climate change is harming me, my fellow plaintiffs, and our people today. The government has not allowed us to have a say in our own future. Remember it will be us struggling, us with no clean water, pristine land or healthy animals. The fight for our future is not over.
We will not stop fighting." -Lexine Demientieff Gwich’in Youth Council Vice President and one of the 16 plaintiffs in the Sagoonick v. State of Alaska case.

"with today's decision, a majority of the Alaska Supreme Court betrayed their duty to safeguard the constitutional rights of these youth and serve as a check on the conduct of the state." - Andrew Welle lead Attorney for the Sagoonick v. State of Alaska case.

"Despite today's decision, we will keep fighting for Alaska's climate future," says one of the 16 young plaintiffs. "This is not over."
