Fairbanks Retriever Club Welcome to FRC's FB page! We hope this will be a good tool for you to stay in touch with club happenings, training tips, hunting stories and more.

The object of the club will be:

to encourage and promote the training and breeding of pure-bred hunting andretrieving dogs (Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Curlycoat Retriever, Flatcoat Retriever, Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever, Irish Water Spaniel, Standard Poodle, and the Novia Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever) and to do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection;

to urge members and breeders to accept each standard of the breed as approved by the American Kennel Club as the only Standard of excellence by which dogs will be judged;

to do all in its power to protect and advance the interest of the breeds by encouraging sportsmanlike competition at field trials, hunt tests, working certificate tests, obedience trials and other activities under the rules of the American Kennel Club;

to conduct sanctioned and licensed field trials and hunt tests under the rules of the American Kennel Club, and to conduct working certificate tests, picnic tests and trials; and

to conduct classes for the training of dogs and educating of handlers; to encourage the training of judges; to cooperate with other groups with similar purposes.

The Fairbanks Retriever Club's AKC Licensed Field Trials are wrapped up for 2026! We didn't have any Derby stakes this year, but had Open All-Age, Amateur All-Age & Qualifying stakes at our July 10th-12th and July 17th-19th Field Trials this year.

Thank you to our judges George Ibarra & Dan Inn for judging all 3 days for FT # 1, and Mark Sehon for judging all 3 days for FT # 2, plus Todd Adams, Dave McGuire & Frank Ganley.

We couldn't hold these events without the extraordinary field help and gatekeepering from Russ & Pauline Alis, Jim Little, Al Vezey, Randy Larson, Greg Hoffman, Barbara Adams, Harry Strahle, Todd Adams, Mary Bixby, and others. Or Frank & Debbie Ganley for lodging our "Outside" judges, and Greg & Lynn Hoffman providing a vehicle for them to drive. I apologize if I've missed anyone, but it truly does take a village to hold these events.

Thank you to everyone who entered our Field Trials, brought scrumptious dishes to tailgates, and so willingly pitched in to help wherever & whenever needed. Results were posted on Entry Express daily -- sorry if a bit later than expected!

Special thanks to the US Army Corps of Engineers Chena River Lakes Flood Control Project personnel for allowing us to use the Floodway for our events & training! And to their contractor/mower who mowed up a storm!! It seemed like the judges could truly take advantage of the grounds' terrain & varied cover, while avoiding hazards for these hard-driving dogs.

It's always bittersweet to see the gate locked & equipment trailer leave the grounds on that last day of our last trial of the season up here -- BUT, we still have several days on the schedule for group training sessions on the grounds. And duck, goose & crane hunting season opens Sept.1st!

Thank you ALL & congratulations to everyone whose dogs earned ribbons, trophy hats, earned titles, qualified all-age status, or qualified for Nationals! We hope you all had fun along the way too, and wish everyone the best in the months ahead.

Sincerely,
Karen M. Wilson
Secretary & Field Trial Secretary

FRC members!

The Club has a schedule for group training sessions & events at the US Army Corps of Engineers Chena River Lakes Flood Control Project, via a permit from the Corps! We (FRC) submit a permit request & schedule typically in January, receive the permit in May for the season. We do not have exclusive use of the multi-use grounds, to drive into the Floodway requires a minimum of 3 Club members present, and there are limits to where we go, and how we conduct ourselves on the grounds. Pretty common sense "rules" -- keep the gate locked, stay on existing roads/trails, don't impede others, leave no trash/spent shells, and be good stewards of the grounds we're privileged to use. This year, and for the next few years, we're using the gate at the Silt Blanket Parking Area to enter & exit the grounds.

We are here to help folks learn to train their retrievers for hunting, non-competitive AKC Licensed Hunt Tests, competitive AKC Licensed Field Trials, and build a handler/working retriever team. We are all amateurs & volunteers, and even if you don't know where or how to even start, please do call on us to help you with that!

Training sessions are participatory -- we all share gear & help one another, from behind the scenes to out in the field. And we adjust for individual dogs, plus have fun! Just yesterday we had dogs from 6 months to 10 years old, pups to FC AFC dogs, each dog working on different skills/concepts.

Let us know if you're interested in the Fairbanks Retriever Club & our activities!

The Fairbanks Retriever Club is holding AKC Licensed Retriever Field Trials on July 10th-12th & July 17th-19th at the US Army Corps of Engineers Chena River Lakes Flood Control Project grounds!

Entries close on Monday, June 29th for the first trial, and on Monday, July 6th for the second trial, both at 8:59pm Alaska Time on Entry Express -- http://entryexpress.net

Please get your entries in! We will be hosting a semi-potluck tailgate on both Saturdays, on the grounds, following the conclusion of the stake(s) that day.

NOTE THE GATE CHANGE THIS YEAR! All access to the grounds will be via the yellow gate at the Silt Blanket Parking Area, see the directions in the premium. Due to construction on the Richardson Highway bridges, the gate by Moose Creek Landing will NOT be available.

Group training on the trial grounds will be available on Tuesday & Wednesday prior to, and between the Field Trials.

Please do get your dogs entered! No late entries accepted, per AKC rules.

If you have any questions, please view the premium, or contact us.
