School might be out, but Anchor Bay Air Force Junior ROTC cadets are still making a difference in the community, most recently helping out with the AYSO Soccer Fest in New Baltimore. This picture captures a great team of current, future and past cadets all working together.

With the end of the school year also came the conclusion of the AFJROTC MI-931 Rocketry Club for the time being. Here's a look back at the 7 weeks of fun they had together. Some successes, some failures, but as the cadets learned, every failure is part of success as long as lessons are being learned through that experience. Great job to all the cadets who participated and earned their rocketry badge and special thanks to cadet Nicolai and cadet MacPherson for being the initiators and leads for this year's club!

ABHS Air Force Junior ROTC cadets enjoyed hearing from our final guest speaker of the year yesterday, SSgt Worton, and learned a little bit about the civil engineering side of the Air Force and Air National Guard. We also had a visit from the commander of the New Baltimore AMVETS, Mr. Rich Cobb, who brought a certificate of appreciation for our help over the years with their spring clean up at their lodge as well as a $400 check to sponsor C/2nd Lt Hosking’s application to Boys State. Good luck to C/2nd Lt Hosking with getting to go to Hillsdale College for this exciting opportunity!

Last week, the cadet color guard of Anchor Bay's Junior ROTC contributed to the pomp and circumstance of the high school class of 2026 graduation ceremony and also did a fantastic job at the most recent school board meeting in which retiring school district staff and elementary school student's award winning artwork were recognized. It's always nice to see these cadets come together, problem solve on site and put their best foot forward in a public setting and in service to others.

We were honored to have a Vietnam veteran and American Legion Post 4 member, share some great information with Anchor Bay's Air Force Junior ROTC about a civics summer camp program available to rising seniors through the Boys State and Girls State programs being held in June at Hillsdale College and MSU respectively. Thank you Mr. Ken Miller for dedicating your day to our program and getting the word out on these great opportunities and the several other youth programs run by the American Legion. If you have a high school student, recommend checking out all they offer at https://michiganlegion.org/programs/.

Thank you to the many community members who came out to honor the families of deceased veterans along with our MI-931 Air Force Junior ROTC cadets during Memorial Day. Cadets participated in New Baltimore's Parade and City Hall ceremony, St Mary's and Oakwood Cemetery's ceremonies, and The Old Club's ceremony on Harsen's Island. It was a busy day, but one we were grateful to share with the community.
