2025 Alewife Festival🐟
If you have been sleeping on this annual event (like I had been), this is something you won’t want to miss in the future!
I used to wonder why we didn’t do much for Earth Day here in Exeter, but now I know it’s because we basically have our own eco-celebration - the Alewife Fest!
I learned so much! I’ll try to tag any groups I know and who are on IG (and if I leave anyone out, please tag them in the comments!)
I learned tips on how to reduce plastic use from Green Action Exeter and the Exeter Sustainability Committee (if you screenshot the photo, then press and hold the QR codes, you can follow the links)
The little bucket of water had little water creatures in it - I learned that a dragonfly lives most of its life in the water! They’re in and out of the water for varying times depending on the species, but they’re typically under water for 1-2 years and flying around for only 1-2 months!
I petted a seal skin (the same seal as our old visitor Rupert!) and learned that they’re soft! I guess I always thought they’d be more smooth?
From the Exeter Tree Committee, I learned that many new trees that humans plant die from lack of water! This was good for me personally to learn, because I’ll be planting a few small trees in my yard this year. Maybe you needed this reminder, too!
The last two tanks: they both looked the same around the beginning of the event, but the oysters in one tank cleaned the water - an adult can filter up to 50 gallons a day!
Thank you to everyone involved with putting this event together! I’m already looking forward to next year ✨
As always, if anyone has pics to share, tag us (with an @) and we’ll share to our stories 🖤
