🥞🍂 Another great Fall Festival in the books!

The Exeter Kiwanis Club had a great time hosting our annual free pancake breakfast this morning! It was so fun seeing everyone come out, especially all the runners who stopped by for a well-deserved breakfast after their races!

A special thank you to the Exeter High School Key Club students who volunteered their time and worked so hard alongside our Kiwanis members to make this breakfast possible. We couldn’t have done it without you! 💙💛

Thank you to everyone who stopped by and enjoyed breakfast with us! We love getting the chance to give back to the community that supports us, and we’re already looking forward to next year!

🇺🇸 PATRIOTS DAY | SEPTEMBER 11TH REMEMBRANCE

Please join us this Friday as our Exeter community comes together to remember the lives lost on September 11th, honor the heroes who served, and recognize the strength of a nation united.

The annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony will begin at 6:00 PM outside the Exeter Veterans Memorial Building. Chairs will be provided.

Following the ceremony and refreshments, we invite our community to join us for a very special homecoming. We will line Kaweah Road (SR 65) from the Veterans Memorial Building to Smith Family Chapel in support of the military procession bringing Sgt. Aguirre home to Exeter.

Sgt. Aguirre was an Exeter Union High School graduate who was lost during World War II. After more than 80 years, his remains have recently been identified, allowing him to finally return home to Exeter and be laid to rest.

Signs for the procession will be made and provided following the 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony. If you would like to help create posters and banners please join us at the Farmers Market tonight and this Saturday 10am-2pm at the Mixter Park.

We hope you’ll join us for this meaningful evening as we remember those we lost, honor those who served, and welcome one of Exeter’s own home. 🇺🇸❤️

This week’s Grave of the Week is another request. Woodrow Leland was born August 13, 1914, in Morrilton, Arkansas. He was raised by sharecroppers.

In World War II, he rose in ranks from Private, to Sgt Commander, Platoon Leader, to Platoon Sargeant. As a Platoon Sargeant, he oversaw a 31-man antitank platoon in the Southwest Pacific Theater of Operations. He was responsible for selection of gun placements for 37-millimeter antitank guns; and for supervising activities of three 10-men crews. When deployed in battle, he gave firing orders to squad leaders from information obtained from signals given by forward observers. He inspected guns, equipment, and am******on. Woodrow was responsible for the conduct of three squads while in combat.

As a Platoon Leader, he was in charge of three tank squads. He led training activities and instructed men in their duties. He deployed tanks, directed firing, and inspected guns and weapons for proper operation.

His group helped to liberate the Philippines and was part of the first occupying forces in Tokyo.

After the war, Woodrow went to work for Peter Kiewit Construction. He was a cement finisher crew leader. His projects included work at UCLA and the 210, 10, and 101 freeways.

Woodrow married wife Florence on June 16, 1956, in Nevada and had one stepson, Victor, He was survived by his younger brothers, Ernest, Ralph and Robert. He passed away November 29, 1978, and is buried in Exeter.

Join us from 1pm-3pm on June 7th to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the Kiwanis pool. Bring your kids or grandkids so they can have the same core memories that we all have about this pool. 💙

If you’re interested in joining our club or just want to see what it’s all about, we have our lunch meetings every Wednesday at East meets West from 12-1pm.

Honoring Exeter Veterans: Last night, Dwight Miller delivered a captivating presentation, showcasing Exeter's rich history of courageous Veterans from the Civil War to the present, and paying tribute to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice and are laid to rest in Exeter's Memorial Cemetery. Our town's remarkable heritage is a source of pride and inspiration. 🙏🏼🇺🇸

Every City Park is seen as the town monument and our City Park is known for it's 100 year old Kiwanis Pool! The pool will be open for 'Splash and Play' June 7th, its 100 year dedication and additionally on the 4th of July for 'Splash and Play!'💦 Hotdogs, popsicles and a good time will be served!
