On Friday, Chief Charlie Norman, Supervisor Vallero and various other dignitaries recognized Extra Help Firefighter Daniel Cervantes for his heroic efforts in which he effected the rescue of a citizen on February 25th. On this day Station 4 was dispatched to a possible structure fire in the community of Orosi. Once at scene, the crew prepared for fire attack and discovered that there was a person unaccounted for. Daniel was prepared at the front door and witnessed movement underneath the smoke level. Daniel entered and pulled the victim from the structure to the awaiting EMS medics. TCFD and everyone in the community are very proud of Daniel and the crew who responded that day. We would also like to emphasize that Daniel is an extra help firefighter and without his heroic efforts in assisting our full time personnel, the outcome could have been very different.

Early Morning Structure Fire Rescue Saves Occupant’s Life

Porterville, CA — In the early morning hours, Porterville Fire Department crews responded to a residential structure fire in the area of 2nd Street and Danner Avenue.

At approximately 2:33 a.m., firefighters arrived on scene to find heavy smoke and active fire conditions, with reports of a possible occupant still inside the residence. Crews quickly initiated a search and gained access through a bedroom window, where they located the occupant and removed her from the structure.

At the time of rescue, the patient was pulseless and not breathing. Fire personnel immediately began CPR and life-saving measures. Through their rapid and coordinated efforts, firefighters were able to restore a pulse prior to transport.

The patient was transported to a local hospital and is currently reported to be in stable condition.

“This incident highlights the dedication, training, and professionalism of our firefighters,” said Fire Chief Bryan Cogburn. “Their quick actions under extremely challenging conditions directly resulted in saving a life.”

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
