🏃‍♀️ What a morning!

We had so much fun cheering on The Wyoming Valley Run right outside our own office! Our Northeast Sight Services crew was out in full force, with staff, board members, and supporters coming together to keep runners hydrated and cheer them on at our water station. 💦

As a beneficiary of the Wyoming Valley Run, we are so grateful to be part of an event that brings our community together and supports Northeast Sight Services.

Thank you to everyone who ran, volunteered, cheered, stopped at our station, or helped make the morning so much fun! We cannot wait to do it again next year! 👟🎉

Summer went by fast. ☀️

As we look back on the past few months, we are grateful for a summer filled with connection, new experiences, and plenty of reasons to smile.

From Camp Sight and MyWork to time spent together at client events, Chip in for Sight, Sip for Sight, and everything in between, this summer gave us so many opportunities to connect with the people we serve and our community.

We are grateful to everyone who helped make these moments possible, whether you participated, volunteered, donated, sponsored, or simply showed up and supported Northeast Sight Services.

Here is a little look back at some of our favorite moments from the summer. 📸

Meet Maria Scopelliti, one of our 2026 Awards Dinner Co-Chairs!

We are excited to welcome Maria into this role as we prepare for an evening celebrating the individuals, organizations and community partners who help make the work of Northeast Sight Services possible.

Maria serves as Vice President of the Surgery Institute at Geisinger, where she oversees multiple surgical service lines, including ophthalmology and optometry. In her role, she works closely with clinical and operational leaders to improve access, quality and outcomes while bringing multidisciplinary teams together to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.

Beyond her professional leadership, Maria is deeply committed to community engagement and nonprofit service. She has served on the Northeast Sight Services Board of Directors since 2024 and has been an active member of our Awards Dinner planning committee. She has also welcomed participants in our Transition to Independence program to Geisinger, helping young people with vision loss gain valuable insight into the workplace and the opportunities available to them.

Through her leadership and involvement, Maria has seen firsthand the importance of creating opportunities, expanding access and helping individuals with vision loss live more independently.

We are grateful for Maria’s continued commitment to Northeast Sight Services and excited to have her helping lead this year’s Awards Dinner!

Join us in welcoming Maria as a 2026 Awards Dinner Co-Chair!

September is Healthy Aging Month!

Healthy aging is about more than staying physically active. It is also about maintaining independence, staying connected, and finding ways to continue doing the things you enjoy.

Changes in vision can be a natural part of aging, but that does not mean you have to give up the activities that are important to you. With the right resources, tools, and support, people experiencing vision loss can continue to live active, independent lives.

At Northeast Sight Services, we help individuals navigate vision loss and discover new ways to accomplish everyday tasks, stay engaged in their communities, and maintain their independence.

This Healthy Aging Month, remember that taking care of your vision is an important part of taking care of yourself.

If you or someone you know is experiencing changes in vision, we are here to help.

We have been making the most of the end of summer by getting out and connecting with our community!

Amy and Janelle recently joined fellow fundraisers and nonprofit professionals at an event hosted by AFP Northeastern PA Chapter, enjoying an evening of networking, conversation, and connecting with others who are working to make a difference across our region.

They also had the opportunity to connect with businesses, community leaders, and organizations from throughout the area at the Greater Wyoming Valley Chamber of Commerce, Wyoming County Chamber of Commerce, and Back Mountain Chamber End of Summer Social.

We are grateful for the opportunity to build relationships, catch up with familiar faces, and meet new people as we continue to stay connected to the communities we serve!

Meet Donna Thornton, one of our 2026 Awards Dinner Co-Chairs!

We are excited to welcome Donna into this role as we prepare for another special evening celebrating the people, organizations and community partners who make a difference through Northeast Sight Services.

Donna serves as Physician Liaison for Eye Care Specialists and Northeastern Eye Institute, where she works closely with eye care providers, medical professionals and community organizations throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania. In her role, she builds relationships and helps connect patients and providers with the services and resources available through the practices.

When Donna joined Eye Care Specialists and Northeastern Eye Institute in April 2025, one of the first organizations she reached out to was Northeast Sight Services. Our mission immediately resonated with her, and she knew she wanted to become involved beyond simply representing her organization.

Since then, Donna has served on our Awards Dinner Committee, helped prepare for last year’s dinner, participated in our 2025 Camp Sight summer program and supported Northeast Sight Services through Eye Care Specialists’ sponsorship of the Awards Dinner and annual golf outing. She has also enjoyed attending our events throughout the year and supporting our work whenever possible.

Through her involvement, Donna has gained an even greater appreciation for the impact Northeast Sight Services has on individuals and families throughout our community.

We are grateful for Donna’s continued partnership and excited to have her helping lead this year’s Awards Dinner!

Join us in welcoming Donna as a 2026 Awards Dinner Co-Chair!

Today, we are celebrating all the dogs who bring a little extra joy to our lives, including Timothy! 🐶

Timothy pops into the Northeast Sight Services office for the day from time to time, and we are always happy to have him around for a visit and a little extra four-legged joy in the workday.
