On August 7th 1782, General George Washington established the Badge of Military Merit - later became the Purple Heart. It honors servicemembers who were wounded or gave their lives in service to our country. We will never forget their courage and commitment. We are forever grateful. 🇺🇸💜

Those in our area known to have been presented this award were: Franz Ge**er, George Harris, Alden Hoffman, Archie Nelson, Ellwyn Nelson, Minor Solberg, David Taber Jr.

Yesterday, we had the honor of providing lunch to 60 riders plus support staff on the northern route of the 42nd Annual Highground Heroes Ride Bike Tour. They started in Hayward Friday morning and will finish at The Highground in Neillsville on Sunday. Money raised provides Veterans and their families with support and resources to help them heal from the wounds of war. 🫡🇺🇸🚲❤️

For 250 years, America has been shaped by those who answered the call to serve.

This Independence Day, we celebrate our nation's history, honor the freedoms we enjoy, and thank the veterans, servicemembers, and military families who continue to protect the ideals our country was founded on.

As we reflect on the past, we look forward with hope for the next 250 years.

Women Veterans Day is celebrated annually on June 12, commemorating the anniversary of the Women's Armed Services Integration Act, which was signed into law by President Harry S. Truman on June 12, 1948. This groundbreaking legislation officially allowed women to serve as permanent, regular members of the United States Armed Forces.
