Trenton Children's Chorus enables young people in the greater Trenton area and its suburbs to experience the artistic power and spirit of creating music together. The Chorus is a presence in a community that struggles with poverty, drug trafficking, violent crime, and gang activity. Our program demonstrates our commitment to childhood development in a strong, safe, diverse, supportive environment
where all choir members feel welcomed and affirmed. And in all we do, we endeavor to expand the horizons for each choir member in music education, in performance achievement and in personal standards, academic learning, individual growth and the joy of creating beauty. TCC offers traditional choral music education and performance opportunities to under-served children. The program includes rehearsal, drumming, music theory, tutoring and homework help and a generous healthy snack. Youth from surrounding suburbs are sought as members to create a culturally diverse choir. TCC builds bridges through its collaboration with area youth choirs, bringing children together not only to sing, but to foster friendships. TCC identifies and seeks educational opportunities its members might not seek for themselves. The Learning Academy pilot program intensively supports choristers who demonstrate both academic promise and current challenges, particularly centered on literacy and mathematics understanding. TCC offers financial support for tutoring, music lessons, private secondary schools and college. Because many students are the first in their family to attend college, mentors assist them with the process. TCC serves as a vehicle for character development and growth of the whole child. The discipline required to achieve artistic excellence has transformative power that builds confidence and translates to improved academics and social skills.
