Today, we were honored to celebrate Executive Chef Darryl Shinoji and Executive Chef Randy Bangloy as they were recognized with the Civilian Certificate of Merit at the Honolulu Police Department’s Chief of Police Spring Awards Ceremony!
For over 14 years, Chef Darryl has generously volunteered his time, talents, and culinary expertise to W**d & Seed Hawaii’s Culinary Arts Summer Program at James Campbell High School. His dedication to teaching, mentoring, and sharing his exceptional culinary skills has inspired and positively impacted countless students throughout the years.
This year, when Chef Darryl was unable to participate, Executive Chef Randy Bangloy graciously stepped in to continue the tradition. Not only did he carry on Chef Darryl’s legacy of excellence, but he took the program to another level by introducing an exciting Mystery Icebox Challenge, encouraging students to think creatively, work together, and put their culinary skills to the test!

Learning About Our Law Enforcement Community!

D8 Community Policing Team had a great time visiting Friendship Christian Preschool and connecting with the keiki! 💙🤙🏼

The officers gave the students a fun, hands-on look at what they do, including the different vehicles used on the job, the equipment officers carry on their duty belts, and how each piece of equipment helps keep our community safe. 🚔

The keiki also learned about the important work of the HPD Solo Bike officers and the SSD Canine Unit, including how the canines assist officers in their jobs. 🏍️🐾

Mahalo to Friendship Christian Preschool for welcoming our officers and giving the keiki an opportunity to learn, ask questions, and build positive connections with law enforcement! 💙

Our W**d & Seed community continues to invest in our keiki through meaningful conversations, education, and positive partnerships. 🤙🏽

Recently, District 8 Community Policing Officers connected with students at ʻIlima Intermediate School to talk about navigating today’s digital world, including:

💬 Bullying & cyberbullying
🤖 The positives & challenges of Artificial Intelligence
🧠 Making smart choices about what we post, share, and see online

For our keiki, the digital world is a big part of everyday life. These conversations help students recognize potential risks, make informed choices, treat others with respect, and know when it’s important to speak up and ask for help.
