Laurie Vidal here: I just found out today that yesterday, 7/29, in a powerboat race in Springfield, OH, one of our top SST45 tunnel boat racers, Treiden Schleicher, was in a fatal crash in his kneel down hull.
Jan and I just raced last weekend, 7/18-20. It was the 3rd race in Alton, IL, of the 6 race F-1 Powerboat Championship featuring F-1, SST45’s and Tri-hulls classes. Treiden was an up and coming driver with the Spencer Love race team racing in the SST45 class.
I just happened across this picture Jan took during the 9:45 am Chapel after Drivers’ Meeting in Alton, IL, and the Spencer Love’s team was front row.
Pictured right to left were Spencer, Treiden with his striking red hair and standing, Monica Allen.
Treiden crashed while competing in a kneel down event where he still competes in a series of racing where almost all of the F-1 drivers start racing.
It is so hard to lose this very special young man in his late teens, I believe, who was just starting to get comfortable in a brand new SST45. Please pray for Treiden’s family, the Spencer Love racing team that is Treiden’s “2nd family” in California, and for our F-1 race family in Marble Falls.
The 4th F-1 Powerboat Championship event starts this Friday in Marble Falls, TX, in the Hill Country outside of Austin, Texas.
