Your Brain on Dirt

Your Brain on Dirt Promoting gardening and urban homesteading for individuals with neurological and physical disabilities as a source of therapy. Please join us on our journey.

Five years ago, I started working in the brain injury field as an Independent Life Skills Trainer. Back then, I knew relatively nothing about individuals with brain injuries other than what was in my textbooks. Five years later, I can't claim to know much more since each brain injury is totally different and each individuals recovery is even more different. One thing I do know is the power of recr

eation in therapy and recovery. So, I decided to work towards making a non-profit geared towards those recovering and I decided to get dirty, with dirt that is. One thing working with brain injury survivors has taught me is the power also of humor, so I decided to call my project- Your Brain on Dirt and our first project at a community gardens- Dirty Brain Farms in honor of humor (both socially appropriate and inappropriate). To date, we have a small plot in a community gardens located in Conifer, CO (Eastern Foothills of the Rockies). The doors are open to ANYONE who is interested in getting down and dirty, regardless of ability, all are welcome. The target audience are those with any type of neurological disability (developmental or acquired) or physical disability, not specifically those with brain injuries (strokes, TBIs, developmental, acquired, PTSD, etc).
