Public lands are essential to healthy watersheds, fish and wildlife, and the outdoor traditions that connect people to these places.
The Bureau of Land Management is considering changes to federal oil and gas leasing rules that would reduce opportunities for public input and roll back safeguards designed to steer development away from sensitive fish and wildlife habitat. The proposal would also change bonding requirements intended to ensure companies are responsible for reclaiming lands and waters affected by development.
Responsible energy development and conservation can coexist. Getting that balance right means protecting water resources, considering fish and wildlife habitat, maintaining meaningful public involvement, and ensuring taxpayers are not left with cleanup costs.
Take action by August 24 and tell the BLM to keep responsible safeguards in place for our public lands and waters. See first comment below.
