No apps for August? Say it isn't so.

This one-year-old Dachshund, Tibetan Spaniel, and Chihuahua mix is full of charm, affection, and personality. He loves playing with toys, snuggling close to his favorite people, and being part of the action around the house.

He’s still learning how to walk on a leash since he hasn’t had much experience with it, but he’s a smart, food-motivated pup who is eager to learn and make progress with gentle guidance and positive reinforcement.

He is making great strides with potty training and does well going outside in the yard. Like many young dogs, he still benefits from regular reminders and a consistent routine to help him stay on track.

This sweet boy forms strong bonds with his people and is happiest when he can stay close to them. He has a naturally protective nature and takes his job of looking after his family seriously. Because he prefers not to share his home and favorite humans with other dogs, he would do best as the only pet in the household where he can soak up all the love and attention.

He would thrive with an older couple or a single person in a calm home without young children. Because he loves companionship and being near his people, he’d do best with someone who works from home or is home most of the day. If you’re looking for a loyal little shadow who will happily cuddle on the couch, play with his toys, and brighten your days with his loving personality, this handsome boy may be the perfect match!

Good morning and Happy Foster Fail Friday! We have a great story today. This foster was responsible for failing TWO dogs in the last two weeks. Remember Bagel? Well, she volunteered to drive Bagel to the Slacker event and showed him off all day, which resulted in two applications, causing his foster parents to panic and realize they could not let him go. 🙂

A few days later, she picked up her first Foster dog and, well, now she has already failed. 🙂 Read on!

"I've really missed having a dog since our beloved Charlie died 3 1/2 years ago. Newly retired, I decided fostering dogs would be a way to fill that need while helping rescued dogs find good homes. Well as they say in the biz, I'm a "foster failure," as I fell in love with my very first foster pup and am adopting him.

Mickey was dumped in Arkansas at 5 weeks old and found with his brother under an abandoned house starving and infested with worms and fleas. He had been bitten by a wild animal and was bowlegged from malnutrition. He's now 7 months old and incredibly loving, trusting and well behaved.

I'm so grateful to Evergreen Animal Protective League for rescuing him, and to the angels in Arkansas who saved his life. There's something really special about rescue dogs. They seem never to forget they've been saved and pay forward their good fortune with love and loyalty to those who give them their forever homes.
Adopt don't shop. ❤"

We are so thankful for what you've done for both Bagel and Mickey! This sweet boy is going to have such an amazing live with you. Happy Forever, Mickey!

Let's get this done people!!! We love helping local shelters and here are some dogs who need us. Need you. They are local, so we can arrange a meeting before you decide to foster! Email [email protected] if you would like to foster any of thse pups.

Fifa (tan/white) came to us after he was barricaded inside his home with the owner, and was immediately catch-poled by the local PD. Once he arrived, he was nothing short of gentle, sweet, and loving. He has become a staff favorite and is well-rounded boy!

Hickory (brindle) and Brock (german shepherd) are similar cases. While we didn't transfer them in, they've also been here a long time without much interest. Brock is a strong boy, he's pretty well rounded but has been working on his leash skills. Hickory had a rough intake, but has since blossomed in our care and really become a volunteer favorite!

Rawlii (grey/white) is a bit high arousal, but is also very food motivated and could make a great training candidate. He loves other dogs and his toys!

Randal (white pittie) can be high energy at times, and a bit rude to other dogs. Although he loves to be a people pleaser, and is highly food motivated so is a great training candidate! Nothing stops him from demanding more pets!

Bugsy (brindle/white) was previously returned to us. She was adopted out as a puppy, and mostly remained in the backyard, despite our counseling efforts. There, she learned some destructive habits and also got into the chicken coop.. With an active family, she would thrive and continue learning the good habits she does have!

Sassy (white) arrived to us extremely malnourished, as her owner could not care for her anymore. She was sent to foster to gain some weight back, and has great notes! Although, she can resource guard some of her favorite items.

Turf (tricolor) was a transfer in for us, and barely gets any interest. He can be a bit high energy at times, but settles quickly. We'd like to prioritize him, as we've seen some concerning repetitive behaviors recently in the kennel such as pacing and vocalizing loudly.

🧈 Meet Butters: A Story About Why Colony Managers Matter 🧈

Before Butters came into rescue, he was doing his best to survive.

After losing his home, Butters found his way to a managed cat colony while searching for food and safety. Thankfully, he picked the right colony.

The colony manager immediately noticed something important: Butters wasn't like the other cats. He was friendly. He approached people. He wanted attention. He clearly wasn't a feral cat.

Rather than assuming he belonged there, the colony manager did exactly what great colony managers do. A search for an owner was started, and for over a month every effort was made to find the family that may have been missing him. Unfortunately, no one came forward.

As time passed, it became clear that Butters wasn't thriving in colony life. While he got along with the other cats, he seemed out of place. We suspect Butters spent most of his life indoors before finding himself outside with very few survival skills. He wasn't comfortable competing for resources, and he began getting picked on by some of the colony cats.

The colony manager recognized that Butters needed something different.

Instead of leaving him where he was, they brought him inside and connected him with rescue so he could begin his journey toward finding a new home.

Today, Butters is safe and waiting for his forever family at the adoption center.

His story is also a reminder of the incredible work colony managers do every single day.

Colony managers don't just put food out. They ensure colonies are spayed and neutered through TNR programs. They know every cat in their colony. They recognize when a new cat appears. They determine whether a cat can thrive outdoors or whether they need intervention, medical care, or rescue placement.

Without that knowledge, dedication, and compassion, cats like Butters can easily fall through the cracks.

Instead, Butters was seen.

He was recognized as a cat who belonged in a home, not struggling to survive outside. Because someone took the time to notice, he now has the chance to spend the rest of his life where he belongs—safe, loved, and spoiled.

And the next time you hear about a managed cat colony, remember that behind every successful colony are dedicated volunteers helping cats like Butters find the futures they deserve. ❤️🐾
