Weekly CDOT Updates
May 12, 2023

UPCOMING WORK
Residents and motorists will continue to see increased construction activity on US 40, CR 65 and Homestead Road as the Floyd Hill Roundabouts project continues. Daytime single lane closures and shoulder closures can be expected on US 40, Homestead Road and CR 65 on weekdays as crews continue to work on power pole relocations, storm sewer work, and constructing the soil nail wall. This work will continue through May 2023.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS
US 40 traffic impacts: Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. – Alternating single lane closures with flagging on US 40 between Mile Point 271 and 272.
CR 65 traffic impacts: Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. - Single lane closures with flagging on southbound CR 65.
Homestead Road impacts: Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. - Alternating single lane closures with flagging on Homestead Road
The parking lot at US 40 and CR 65 is permanently closed

PROJECT OVERVIEW
US 40 & Floyd Hill Roundabouts project kicked off in December 2022 and consists of building two single-lane roundabouts at the intersections of US 40 and Homestead Road, and US 40 and County Road 65. This is one of several I-70 Floyd Hill Early Projects advanced to improve traffic flow and safety ahead of construction of the main I-70 Floyd Hill project.

In addition to the intersection reconstruction, crews will also make storm drain improvements, add lighting around the roundabouts, and add bicycle specific signage and pavement markings to enhance safety for cyclists. The roundabout location at US 40 and Homestead Road will have a bypass lane, which will allow westbound US 40 travelers to bypass the roundabout if they don’t need to access the Floyd Hill neighborhood or I-70. American Civil Constructors is the contractor for this project, with work expected to be completed November 2023.

Are you planning fire mitigation projects on your property?

The Clear Creek County Wildfire Risk Reduction Grant Program is a community-based, cost share program that provides matching grants to eligible Clear Creek County single property homeowners to assist with actual costs associated with the implementation of hazardous fuels reduction projects. The purpose of this grant program is to reduce wildfire risk in Clear Creek County by amplifying the wildfire mitigation investment homeowners make on their properties.

Projects may include the creation of defensible space to reduce the ignitability of structures throughout the plan area, hazard tree removal, the creation of fuel breaks, the development of emergency water supplies, and improvements to evacuation routes by the removal of trees.

Applicants can request up to 50% of project costs up to a maximum of $5,000 to fund a wildland mitigation project. The change from Homeowners Association-based grants to individual property owner grants was made to include residents who may not be a part of an association which will offer equity in availability of grant funds.
