We were sad when the rodenticide reduction bill failed in the CO House. Learn more about why we need to stop using rodenticides today.

šŸŗšŸŒæšŸ€ Join us on May 28 for our FREE webinar, How Rodenticides Threaten Bobcats, Coyotes, & Urban Wildlife šŸ€šŸŒæšŸ±

Wildlife poisoning doesn’t stop with rodents.

When hawks, bobcats, coyotes, foxes, or mountain lions consume poisoned rats and mice, toxic rodenticides move up the food chain, weakening wildlife, disrupting ecosystems, and threatening the health of entire communities.

Join Project Coyote’s State Advocacy Manager, Kiely Smith, for a compelling conversation with Dr. Laurel Serieys, Conservation Biologist & Post-Doctoral Researcher, The Ohio State University Urban Coyote Research Project, and Lisa Owens Viani, founder and executive director of Raptors Are The Solution (RATS). Together, we’ll explore the hidden impacts of rodenticides on wildlife and discuss effective, non-lethal approaches to managing rodents while protecting the carnivores who help keep ecosystems in balance.

Hi, Evergreen. As we mourn other victims of wildlife-vehicle collisions on Hwy 74 today and last Sunday, please remember that elk are now calving. Please give them a LOT of clearance and keep your dogs away-look in your yard before letting them outside please! if you are at Evergreen Lake or another Denver Mountain Park and you see people harassing an elk or an elk attacking dogs or people, please call the Denver Parks Ranger Hotline. Leave a message and someone will call you back quickly. They have a great reputation of returning calls, so don't worry about having to leave a message.

Wild Aware has reached out to Jeffco Road & Bridge which will be working on Meadow Drive on these dates:

Concrete Work (May 20 & May 26) – Drain pan installation for stormwater runoff near Bear Creek Rd. Access to the business parking area on the south side of Meadows Dr will be limited
Milling (May 27-June 3) and Paving (June 11-19) – Removal of the existing asphalt and placement of a new asphalt surface to restore the roadway
Widening (June 4-10) – Along both sides of Meadows Dr starting with the north side. Road will be reduced to one lane of traffic with intermittent holds in each direction guided by flaggers

We discovered the schedule too late to ask for a postponement. Please be aware that the elk calves and the road work are coinciding. The work may prevent elk from coming through Meadow Drive residents' yards, or the elk might not be too worried about the noise, smells etc. Please be extra aware that these animals could be in the vicinity and have more stress than usual. Give them a brake on the road and be sure to keep pets inside as they move their calves around town. Be careful about spooking the animals as we don't want them on hot asphalt. Remember that protective elk can be quite dangerous as they are mammals like we are and take their mom roles seriously, as they should.

Give Me A Brake — Year Two! šŸ«Ž

We’re proud to announce that the Give Me A Brake campaign is back for its second year, and we couldn’t do it without our incredible partners at the Colorado State Patrol.

Together, we’re bringing critical wildlife-safe driving awareness to State Highway 74 and the roads beyond — because every driver who slows down makes a difference for the animals that call these corridors home.

A heartfelt thank you to the Colorado State Patrol for their steadfast commitment to this mission. Their partnership amplifies what’s possible when public safety and wildlife conservation work side by side. We are truly grateful for their dedication to protecting both the people and the wildlife of Colorado.

If you travel State Highway 74 — or any road through wildlife country — please slow down, stay alert, and give wildlife a brake

Thank you Courier for sharing this important information with the community. We want to give a shoutout to the Colorado State Patrol for working with us on a wildlife-vehicle collision awareness campaign, Give Me a Brake, starting this week!

Two reported elk killed in traffic last Saturday, and the March hit-and-run death of Michael Longfellow have sparked calls for Highway 74 drivers to slow down, and for offiicials to

Do pine beetle management choices affect wildlife in our foothills?

How do natural deterrents differ from traditional chemical 'preventative sprays' in terms of wildlife safety?

If a woodpecker eats a beetle from a tree that has been chemically treated, are there secondary poisoning risks?

We’ve all heard about pine beetles—but have you considered the bigger picture? Join this FREE special Wild Aware event to hear Wesley Manney, founder of The Mountain Pine Beetle Foundation, discuss these important questions and the options available to homeowners.

You’ve heard about pine beetles—but do you know how to actually protect your trees from them?

Join us (virtually) for the Pine Beetle Webinar this Wednesday, May 20th from 4:30–5:30 PM to find out what every foothills homeowner needs to know.

Do your pest management choices affect local wildlife? Could a woodpecker eating a chemically treated beetle face secondary poisoning?

Expert arborist Wesley Manney, founder of the Mountain Pine Beetle Foundation, will tackle these questions and walk through your real options as a homeowner. Wesley has led major tree disaster relief across the Western Hemisphere—from Puerto Rico to post-Hurricane Asheville—and his work in Shaver Lake, CA helped save an entire community from wildfire devastation. He’s now bringing that expertise to Colorado’s beetle epidemic.
