The American Cancer Society is the leading cancer-fighting organization with a vision to end cancer as we know it, for everyone. This year, in Washington State alone, it is estimated that over 38,000 people will hear the words “you have cancer” and more than 12,000 of those individuals are unfortunately not expected to win their battle. A cancer diagnosis can be a frightening and isolating experie
nce, often eliciting overwhelming questions, fear, emotional stress, financial concerns and health care demands. From consultations with medical professionals, to decisions about treatment and how to care for loved ones, it is easy to become lost through the cancer journey with many people feeling that they have to face these decisions alone. The American Cancer Society can help guide patients and their caregivers through their cancer experience. Patient navigators can help find transportation to and from cancer-related appointments, assist with medical financial issues including insurance navigation, identify community resources and provide information on the cancer diagnosis and treatment process. In partnership with our volunteers, our sponsors, our donors and our supporters, we can continue to provide free lifesaving services to patients, their families and caregivers, and we can continue to invest in groundbreaking cancer research right here in Washington. The American Cancer Society is the second largest funder of cancer research, second only to the US government. Here in Washington State, we have over 7 million dollars in cancer research currently being funded. Research is at the heart of what we do, and research has no boundaries. Research efforts across the nation save lives in every community. Together we will continue to advance our mission in Snohomish County and fight back against cancer.
