Evergreen Fly Fishing Club

Evergreen Fly Fishing Club Founded in 1955, the Evergreen Fly Fishing club (EFFC) provides fly fishing educational programs and activities for its members.

Founded in 1955, the Evergreen Fly Fishing club (EFFC) provides fly fishing educational programs and activities for its members, serves as a venue for interaction of fly fishers in Snohomish County, and promotes the conservation of fishery resources. EFFC is a non-profit organization with over 100 member and is affiliated with the national Federation of Fly Fishers as well as one of its founding m

ember clubs. Based in Everett, Washington, the Evergreen Fly Fishing Club has a long and rich history. It was founded in late 1954 by a small group of avid fly fishers that included Lew Bell, Bill Beggs, Ted Knoblauch, Al Knudson, Ernie Larson, Lloyd McChesney, and Lloyd Solie. Lew was one of the early presidents of the Federation of Fly Fishers (FFF) and Al Knudson, whose Knudson spider fly pattern has become a standard in the Northwest. Early members included Bill Nelson, another founder of the FFF, credited by many with coming up with the original idea for a national alliance of fly fishers. Today the club numbers well over 100 members, but it has kept its founders' tradition of emphasizing activities, education and conservation. While the club meets in Everett, its members come from throughout Snohomish and King Counties and beyond.

To protect the wild chinook salmon, the Skykomish River will be closed to all salmon, steelhead and game fish until Nov. 1. Please check regs, especially emergency closures, on the WDFW.WA.gov, before going fishing.

Conservation and recovery of wild Chinook salmon returning to the Snohomish River and its tributaries — including the Skykomish and Snoqualmie — was an important issue WDFW and tribal co-managers evaluated and discussed with anglers, guides, and advisors during the 2026 North of Falcon process.

In 2026, fewer than 3,500 wild Chinook are forecasted to return to the Snohomish Basin. Refer to our latest WDFW blog post to learn more: wdfw.medium.com/snohomish-basin-salmon-steelhead-fisheries-limited-to-protect-wild-chinook-2026-e0d1400a9f38

Given the need to protect and conserve these endangered Chinook, the mainstem Skykomish, Snoqualmie below Snoqualmie Falls, and several other rivers in this watershed will be closed to fishing in summer and fall 2026 to support Chinook conservation.

An emergency fishing closure published on June 2 closes salmon, steelhead, and game fish seasons on the Skykomish River until Nov. 1, including previously planned fisheries for Chinook returning to the Wallace River Hatchery and steelhead returning to the Reiter Ponds Hatchery: wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/regulations/emergency-rules/skykomish-river-fishing-will-not-open-until-nov-1-2026-06

Last weekend, the Evergreen Fly Club had their Annual Outing at Big Twin Lake. The weather was unseasonably warm, the wind behaved and the fishing was exceptional. A long-time member stated, “It’s the best fishing we’ve had in decades!” The club also explored several of the areas’ selective gear lakes and reported back the fishing was great. Thank you to all who attended, brought food and beverages, and making the drive over the long way!
