quick disclaimer to the graff community: we did not remove graffiti art nor are we targeting graffiti art. what we removed along 4th avenue near voyager middle school and mariner high school was territorial gang vandalism. that’s our focus 😁

huge thank you to everyone who came out saturday to help prep the neighborhood for upcoming murals (funded by ) by south everett artist mohammad kujabi ( ) ✨

this was a collaboration between voyager middle school students, their national honor society club, and local landscaping company , who donated their time to tackle overgrowth and even fed volunteers. seriously appreciated.

the kids who painted crushed it, but dang did they deplete the amount of paint we calculated for the entire project šŸ˜‚ lesson learned.

i was back out there again today wrapping up two walls that needed a little more detail work, but the rest are getting hit with a sprayer. and not only are we painting these fences for free, we’re also offering six months of maintenance support to participating homeowners to help set them up for success long-term.

now we know the exact paint code, sheen, and primer base, which means future vandalism can be covered much faster and more consistently instead of the awkward off color patches.

that said… this corridor is in... rough shape!!

illegal dumping, overgrown sidewalks, poor lighting, unsafe pedestrian infrastructure, speeding traffic… and this is a route used every day by voyager, mariner, and nearby discovery elementary students.

to be clear, i don’t mean to come off like some nimby ā€œold man yelling at cloudsā€ ... but there are moments where we should demand more from our government, and imo, this is one of them.

why are homeowners expected to repeatedly deal with gang vandalism entirely on their own? why are sidewalks allowed to become so overgrown that pedestrians are pushed toward traffic why does a corridor serving multiple schools still feel designed primarily for speeding cars? how the heck is there not a park in walking distance given the proximity to all three schools?

so anyways, south everett deserves its flowers!!!!!!

while we've been trying to advocate for a better stadium deal... we've also been working on a really fun project in the 4th avenue neighborhood of south everett! šŸ˜Ž

this project is a collaboration between voyager middle school students, local property owners, snohomish county public works, and funding support from the city of everett.

first comes a neighborhood trash cleanup and overgrowth mitigation day

then primer/base coat day(s) 🫟

then two community ā€œpaint by numberā€ murals designed by south everett resident with your help painting them!!!

we’re also giving nearby fences a fresh coat of paint alongside the mural walls to help set both the artwork and the neighborhood up for long-term success. having a clean, consistent base makes it easier (and aesthetically looks way better) to quickly paint over vandalism with the correct color and sheen instead of random mismatched squares so we can make year-round touch ups if/when needed

the goal is to make maintenance easier, faster, and more consistent over time while helping the neighborhood feel cared for again.

reminders will be posted as we get closer to all of this, but we’re really going to get into the nuts and bolts of this issue and work toward improving quality of life for everyone who passes through that neighborhood.

dates may change due to weather or unforseen circumstances*** meet at the voyager middle school parking lot and look for the big yellow van... no crazy experience required! 😌

we showed up this afternoon to speak on the stadium and didn’t get to finish everything, so... here’s the full thought!!

to recap... we’re not against the stadium, we want the aquasox here, we want it to work. but... if public dollars are going into this, then the return should show up in the community—not just around the stadium, but across everett 😤

our ask is simple: about $2 per ticket from events goes into a community investment fund. that’s roughly $600k–$800k a year going back into everett neighborhoods

no new public dollars, and it grows as attendance grows. that money should go toward the stuff people see and use every day—parks, fields, corridors, basic upkeep

but the part we didn’t get to fully say is this: there also needs to be a real, ongoing commitment from the teams themselves. not just upfront, not just tied to the bond—something that shows up every year that built into the deal!

that could be direct investment in parks and fields, or scholarships so kids can play sports regardless of cost

this doesn’t fix everything, but it’s a start. it makes the project better, it builds trust, and it gives people a reason to actually buy in

if this is moving forward, it should work for all of everett šŸ™‚ā€ā†•ļø

update: we’ve been in active dialogue with the mayor and city council about the proposed stadium project. while we appreciate the deep dive into the $100m+ financing structure, there is a disconnect between the future being described and the reality we’re seeing on our streets every day šŸ—‘ļø

we’ve been doing trash cleanups since october 2023, along with mural work and neighborhood advocacy. lately, it’s starting to feel like an uphill battle. we’re seeing:

- illegal dumping piling up citywide
- overgrown vegetation taking over public spaces
- vandalism that stays unaddressed for too long

at the same time, citywide services feel like they are slipping. it’s also difficult to reconcile renderings of an outfield ferris wheel (LOL) with the reality that we have no park rangers, the forest park pool is closed, and code enforcement feels stretched. it’s not just the ferris wheel, it’s the contrast, especially with things like a potential everett transit merger, already reduced library capacity, and more.

we understand that this funding is not being diverted from parks or other services. but that distinction does not change the experience on the ground. the city is taking on a major new obligation while our existing neighborhoods are struggling to keep up with basic maintenance.

and as the cost of this project continues to rise, the contributions from the aquasox and usl have remained relatively flat.

if public dollars are doing the heavy lifting, the public should see guaranteed returns for all of everett, not just the downtown core.

we are staying firm on our call for a community investment fund. if we are going to move forward on a project of this scale to meet league requirements for private teams, those teams should also be investing back into the broader health of everett, not just the stadium footprint.

we want to see this project succeed, but not at the expense of the neighborhoods we live in and work for 😤

04/22/2026

we showed up at council this afternoon to push for a simple principle: if the public is funding it, the public should benefit 😤

also yes, evan thought the meeting was at 6:30 p.m. it was at 12:30 p.m. oops.

now we’re watching to see if meets with before the next council meeting and comes back with something better for the community.

stay tuned!

we emailed this evening. have you?

our issue isn’t necessarily the location... it’s the deal! we’re not asking enough from the

and hey, we love the frogs! but a project funded roughly 92% by the public and just 8% (about $10 million) privately is wildly out of balance.

we also recognize this process has displaced several small businesses amid the eminent domain process.

but let’s be clear: this isn’t a small, local team scraping by. it’s privately owned by an investment firm with multiple teams in its portfolio. the capacity to contribute more is there.

we know many people don’t want this project to happen at all. even setting that aside, the current proposal still asks too little from the team while city services continue to decline.

if public dollars are doing the heavy lifting, then public benefit should be guaranteed from day one!!!

we want clear, enforceable commitments that return real value to everett residents whether they attend games or not.

if that resonates with you and or you completely disagree with our take on this, join us at this wednesday’s city council meeting at 6:30pm! the city needs to hear your concerns on this project either direction

this deal needs to work for everett, not just the team 😤
