What a magical and eventful week we've had at Black Mountain!

Our members got into the holiday spirit by creating festive snow globes and Christmas flamingos in Art. In STEM, we made shaving cream snowmen and put our curiosity to the test with a fun candy cane experiment.

In Reading, members used their creativity to write and perform their very own Christmas play, building confidence and teamwork along the way.

We also spent time exploring different career paths, learning about professions such as doctors, nurses, and construction workers and the important roles they play in our communities.

To top off an amazing week, we received a very special visitor all the way from the North Pole... Santa Claus himself! 🎅 Members enjoyed cookies, milk, and hot chocolate while sharing smiles, laughs, and plenty of Christmas cheer.

Thank you to everyone who helped make Christmas in June such a memorable week. We can't wait to see what adventures next week brings!

Secret Spy Academy is officially underway at Black Mountain Boys & Girls Club!

We kicked off summer camp with an exciting week of mystery, problem-solving, and adventure! Our members created their own secret agent identities by combining their favorite color and favorite animal to make unique agent names that they used all week long.

Throughout the week, our young agents stayed busy completing missions across every program area. In Math, they solved challenging math missions, while Reading had them cracking secret codes and deciphering symbols. During College & Career Readiness, members learned about careers in law enforcement, the Secret Service, and other public safety professions.

Our STEM activities put their investigative skills to the test as they identified mysterious substances, and in Art, they designed creative disguises worthy of any undercover agent. Daily obstacle courses in PE helped our agents stay sharp, active, and ready for action!

A special thank you goes to Josh Sargent from the Harlan County Sheriff's Office for visiting our club this week. He taught members about fingerprinting, handed out badges, and even gave them the opportunity to tour his patrol cruiser. It was an unforgettable experience and a fantastic way to bring our Secret Spy Academy theme to life!

We can't wait to see what adventures next week brings!

We are observing Mental Health Awareness Month at the Black Mountain Boys & Girls Club.

This month, our Club members have been learning about feelings, emotions, and ways to maintain a healthy mind. In Art, members created “Worry Monsters” to help release and store their worries, just in time for state testing season. We also completed our Positive Action lessons. Members earned certificates and celebrated their hard work with cookies. In STEM, members planted beans and will observe how plants grow with and without sunlight.

We are proud to provide a safe and supportive environment where kids can learn healthy habits, express themselves, and grow inside and out.

Last week at the Black Mountain Boys & Girls Club was full of hands-on learning and ocean-themed fun!

We were excited to welcome the Harlan 4-H Extension Office to our Club. They taught our members the proper way to wash their hands and showed just how easily germs can spread. Members also explored how circuits work and discovered how electricity can travel through the body in a safe and educational way.

Our creativity and curiosity continued throughout the week. In art, members made shark puppets, while in STEM they created their own “ocean in a bottle” experiments. PE kept the energy high with sea creature themed relay races that had everyone moving and laughing.

We wrapped up the week with our monthly incentive celebration. Members enjoyed sea charades, an obstacle course, and cookie decorating. We also celebrated our monthly birthdays and recognized our Members of the Month for their hard work and positive attitudes.

It was a great week at the Club filled with learning, creativity, and fun!

Last week, the Black Mountain Boys & Girls Club had an amazing Family Engagement Night and it was a huge hit with our members and families! YDP Emily Evans led everyone through a fun spring painting activity where members created adorable duck paintings to take home.

In Money Matters, members made vision boards focused on careers they hope to pursue in the future. It was exciting to see all the dreams and goals our kids shared!

During Positive Action, members participated in a scavenger hunt where they followed clues to discover positive words and reminders that we can use every day.

In Art, creativity was flowing as members used forks to paint colorful puffer fish masterpieces!

We love seeing our members learn, grow, and express themselves in so many different ways each week at the Club.

It’s been a fun and engaging week at the Black Mountain Boys & Girls Club!

In Positive Action, Ms. Evans showed us how teamwork leads to positive results as members worked together to build towers. In reading, students explored their favorite sea animals and even held a friendly debate on which one reigns supreme!

Creativity was in full swing during art as members crafted colorful coral reefs, while in STEM they brought their favorite sea creatures to life using salt dough.

We wrapped up the week with board games, outdoor play, and plenty of smiles. It’s always great to see our members learning, growing, and having fun together!

We wrapped up March with a fun Easter egg hunt and cupcakes as we celebrated our March birthdays together.

Now we have jumped right into April with our Under the Sea theme. Our members have been busy creating ocean ecosystems during STEM and making jellyfish and turtles in Art. Along the way, we have also been learning about pollution and simple ways we can all help keep our waters clean.

We are also continuing to build a love for reading during Book Club, where members enjoy exploring new stories together.

It has been a great start to the month at Black Mountain Boys & Girls Club!

It’s been a short week at the Black Mountain Boys & Girls Club, but we are so glad to be back! Members jumped right into the fun with brain breaks led by Ms. Anna, keeping minds active and energized. They also learned valuable lessons during Money Matters with Ms. Evans, building skills that will last a lifetime.

To get ready for spring, our members got creative by drawing their own flower gardens, and they had an absolute blast staying active with relay races in PE.

We’re excited for more fun and learning ahead!
