SICAN Scholars Mentoring Program

SICAN Scholars Mentoring Program Mentoring The Southwest Indiana College Access Network (SICAN) encourages and helps students pursuing education after high school. Mentoring is a joint venture.

We provide free resources, career counseling, and guidance to students, parents, and mentors throughout the application and admissions process. Contact SICAN today for information and assistance. Successful mentoring means sharing responsibility for learning regardless of subject matter, the timing, and all other variables. Successful mentoring begins with setting a contract for learning around wh

ich the mentor, the mentee, scholar, parents and their educational institute are aligned. During the mentoring relationship we introduce college access programming such as college visits, career exploration, personality and life skill assessments. Our staff along with school counselors and mentors assists with scholarship opportunities, job shadowing, and explore resources to help our scholars pay, prepare and plan for postsecondary success. Our Mentors make a one-year commitment to their Mentee. During this calendar year, we ask that you and your mentee meet a minimum of one hour per week. You will be able to accomplish this by meeting with them for lunch, emailing and or attending extracurricular activities with your mentee. We also ask that mentors complete the initial orientation training and special events planned for both mentor and mentee.
