Deputy Zwilling recently distributed complimentary Dairy Queen ice cream coupons to conscientious kids! Thanks to our friends at Dairy Queen Windmill and Virginia St. locations, Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office deputies will be rewarding exemplary cyclists throughout the summer.
1. Always wear a helmet: A helmet is the most critical safety gear you can wear while bicycling. It can protect your head in case of an accident and reduce the risk of a severe injury.
2. Follow traffic rules: Bicycles are considered vehicles, so you must follow the same traffic rules as drivers. That means stopping at stop signs and traffic lights, using hand signals when turning, and riding in the same direction as traffic.
3. Be visible: Make sure you wear bright, reflective clothing and use lights or reflectors on your bicycle, especially when riding at night.
4. Stay alert: Keep your eyes and ears open for cars, pedestrians, and other potential hazards while riding. Avoid using headphones or other distractions that might prevent you from hearing or seeing what's going on around you.
By following these tips, you can help make bicycling a safer and more enjoyable activity for everyone. So, let's set an example for others by prioritizing safety and following these basic guidelines. Happy riding!
