Voting isnโ€™t about loving politics or agreeing with a political party. Itโ€™s about having a voice in the decisions that affect our schools, neighborhoods, utility bills, development, public dollars and everyday lives.

Over the next few weeks, Iโ€™ll be sharing these 10 Reasons Why You Should Vote as reminders that participation matters. Whether youโ€™re a first-time voter, havenโ€™t voted in years, or have wondered whether your vote makes a difference, take some time to learn whatโ€™s on your ballot and make your own decisions.

Check your registration. Register to vote. See whatโ€™s on your ballot. You can do all three at IndianaVoters.in.govโ ๏ฟผ.

Indiana voter registration deadline: October 5, 2026.

โ™ป๏ธ Heavy Trash Pickup Reminder โ™ป๏ธ

City residential customers can request a heavy trash pickup every two weeks (except during the fall leaf pickup program). Republic Services will pick up one item per request, or pairs like a couch and loveseat or a washer and dryer.

Scheduling a pickup is the smart choice for your neighborhood! When you leave large items at the curb, scavengers may rummage through them, creating a mess and scattering debris. A scheduled pickup keeps things clean, safe, and environmentally responsible.

๐Ÿค”Fact Friday: Did you know that trash carts should not be placed at the curb earlier than 5:00am on the day before the scheduled day of collection? And according to Evansville city ordinance, all carts should be removed from the curb no later than 5:00pm on the day after the scheduled collection day.

๐Ÿ—‘๏ธRemoving empty trash carts from the curb within a day prevents foul odors, discourages scavenging pests, reduces visual blight and avoids potential fines.
