A note from the Lyssa Lovejoy, President of EAC:
I wanted to share little history the the holiday of Juneteenth, it has been celebrated in my family for decades.
A Symbol of Resilience: Juneteenth honors the resilience, culture, and achievements of Black Americans.
Leaving “Cornbread for Harriet" is a cultural tradition and custom where people leave out a piece of cornbread (often with fatback or salt pork) and leave their oven light on for Harriet Tubman on Juneteenth.
Similar to leaving cookies for Santa, this practice serves as a symbolic act of ancestor veneration to honor Tubman, the Underground Railroad, and all who fought for Black liberation
